Madras Cafe – Authentic South Indian Delight in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad Located near BShaswat Elegance, close to SBI Dharamnagar in Ramnagar, Abu Street Society, Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Madras Cafe is a true hidden gem for anyone who craves genuine South Indian food. This cafe is not just another eatery – it’s a place where the passion for authentic flavors meets warm hospitality. The man behind this establishment, Shri Manoj Sir, is a true food enthusiast and a dedicated host. His approach towards customers is remarkable – he listens, understands, and caters to the exact requirements of each guest. One of the most admirable things about Madras Cafe is the authenticity in its ingredients. Shri Manoj Sir ensures that the pure ghee used in the cafe is sourced directly from South India. This is not just a marketing claim; the taste, aroma, and quality of the ghee prove its authenticity. It gives a distinctive richness to the food that is simply unmatched by the regular market ghee. The spices, the cooking techniques, and even the serving style all speak of a genuine commitment to delivering a real South Indian experience right here in Ahmedabad. Now let’s talk about the food we experienced during our visit – it was nothing short of delightful. Tattha Idli – ₹85++ Soft, hot, and incredibly fresh, the Tattha Idli was a perfect start to our meal. Served piping hot, the texture was fluffy yet moist, just the way it should be. Paired with chutneys and sambhar, it set the tone for the flavors we were about to enjoy. Medu Vada – ₹76++ The Medu Vada was served crisp and golden on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned with just the right amount of black pepper. This slight peppery kick elevated the overall taste, making it more than just a regular vada. It was served hot, ensuring that the crunch was intact till the last bite. Open Dosa Special – ₹171++ A unique style of dosa presentation, the Open Dosa Special had a beautiful texture – crispy edges with a slightly soft center loaded with flavorful masala. It was not just visually appealing but tasted divine. The balance of spices in the masala, the crispy base, and the touch of ghee made it an unforgettable dish. Ghee Masala Dosa – ₹152++ This dish truly captured the soul of South Indian cooking. The aroma of authentic ghee filled the air as soon as it was served. The dosa was thin, crisp, and perfectly roasted, while the potato filling inside was mildly spiced yet packed with flavor. This was a comforting, hearty dish that left us wanting more. Ghee Mysore Masala Dosa – ₹180++ If you love a spicy kick in your food, this one is a must-try. The Mysore masala inside had a perfect balance of heat and flavor, and when combined with pure ghee, it created an irresistible combination. This was, in our opinion, one of the best items in the entire cafe. Idli – ₹57++ (2 pieces) Served hot and soft, the idlis were simple yet satisfying. Paired with sambhar and chutneys, they made for a wholesome, light, and healthy option. Applam (Papad) – ₹14++ Golden, crispy, and deep-fried to perfection, the Applam made for a perfect crunchy side dish to go with the soft idlis and dosas. Apart from the food, the service at Madras Cafe was commendable. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and the orders were served quickly despite the cafe being busy. The overall cleanliness, from the kitchen to the tables, was impressive. The atmosphere was casual yet welcoming, making it an ideal spot for families, friends, and solo diners alike. What truly sets Madras Cafe apart from others is the personal involvement of the owner. Shri Manoj Sir can often be seen interacting with customers, asking for feedback, and ensuring that each guest leaves with a smile. His dedication reflects in every aspect – from sourcing quality ingredients to maintaining the authenticity of the recipes. In a city like Ahmedabad, where food trends change rapidly, Madras Cafe stands firm on its core values – authenticity, quality, and customer satisfaction. For those who love South Indian cuisine, this place is nothing short of a blessing. Whether you are craving crispy dosas, soft idlis, crunchy vadas, or just the aroma of freshly made sambhar with pure ghee, Madras Cafe should be on your must-visit list. It is a place where food is not just served, but an experience is created – one that you will cherish long after your meal is over. We highly recommend visiting Madras Cafe if you are in or around Sabarmati. Come here once, and you’ll find yourself returning again and again for that unmatched South Indian taste.

How I Met My Food

This place serves authentic Bengalaru style dosas, idlis, medu vada & filter coffee in Ahmedabad 👌 Dosas were crispy & fluffy; idlis were super soft & melted in mouth; sambhar was delicious & full of Indian spices. They use pure ghee & everything is made fresh. The taste and the quality of the food is uncompromised here! The ambience is simple just the way it is in South Indian restaurants. These south indian delights are exceptionally tasty & super affordable. They serve jain varieties as well- sambar, chutneys, pakodas- everything is available in jain. Timings: 7.30 am to 11.30 am 5.30 pm to 10.30 pm Address: 187, Behind Panchsheel Hospital / Canara Bank, Ramnagar , Sabarmati , Ahmedabad 380005

Had a dumb experience with the rude owner of this cafe. We travelled 10km to get there and we saw a notice at the billing counter saying "Only jain food shall be served due to paryushan" We asked the owner about why cant we get non jain food afterall its a south indian cafe, I have never seen jain south indian food before. The owner rudely replied saying "Mai khud jain hu aur ye mera cafe hai, Mujhe jo serve karna hai karunga" Is this how you tackle customer queries? Learn to gain some professionalism before opening cafes. Never ever gonna recommend this place to anyone who dont know how to treat their customers. Secondly, I dont understand the logic behind this. The said owner is making money from chopping potatoes and onions through out the year and now just for one week he thinks he can please god by offering jain food? Its like someone runnung pure non veg restaurant and onky during navratri days he is serving veg food only to please god. Like really? We have come to your cafe, not your home. We are your customer, not guest. If you are so against onion and potatoes then open a restaurant purely having jain dishes throughout the year. Please dont pretend to be dharmik atleast 🙏 And learn business ethics before opening a business.

I have never come across something as absurd as this in my life! We’ve all seen restaurants advertise "JAIN FOOD AVAILABLE," but this place takes it to a whole new level: "ONLY JAIN FOOD AVAILABLE," and in a South Indian restaurant, no less, for 8-9 days of Paryushan, just because the owner happens to be Jain. We fought through the nightmare that is Ahmedabad traffic, based on a friend’s recommendation, only to be greeted with utter disbelief upon arrival. They are ONLY serving Jain food, which means NO ONION, NO POTATO in the masala – the masala, instead, was made with raw bananas. We were absolutely shocked! While we have the utmost respect for the Jain culture and Paryushan, how can a restaurant force their personal food restrictions on paying customers? This is akin to a non-veg restaurant refusing to serve meat during Navratri, simply because the owner is observing it. It’s ridiculous! To add insult to injury, the owner had the nerve to speak to us with such arrogance, as if we were the ones in the wrong for expecting a normal meal. It’s no surprise the place was a ghost town, even during peak dinner hours at 9 pm. I’m furious and utterly disappointed.

I just ordered the podi idli and just cause it was delivery they cooked it in stale oil and there was no podi, you'll just send anything you'll want? podi idli is made in ghee not used stale oil. have a little shame. please make sure you don't pay the delivery guy before tasting it. DISGUSTING

Very rude staff. Served old cold food and when we complained, they didn't even respond to us and totally ignored us. We just got disappointed and left the food and came back. Full waste of money. High charges and bad services. No ethics in staff
