Have you ever been in a situation, where your dinner scene was watered down maggi made en mass to suit the whims and fancies of a brutal dictator (Aditya Sanjay Mehta), and were forced to venture out into the wilderness looking for food? If yes, you must be a resident of the MHOR.

While I would love to go more into my dislike of ASM and his mess policies, I’ll stick to my review. Anyway, thanks to some exploring and lamenting, my compatriots and I decided on this restaurant. A lot of factors went into deciding to go to this place. Firstly due to how inexpensive it was compared to the other poulet frit places in town and secondly because it was the closest one in town.

5 Star has this aura about it which hits you the minute you step in its premises. The place is ultra-cheek, cozy and right below the line of over pretentiousness. It has open kitchen, which ensures that you see that the cook- Jagdeesh, doesn’t spit in your food. It also, believe it or not does not have a sink or a washing area, which I was informed was the new way which places like these operate. Saving the planet requires five-star effort and five star chicken is putting one step in the right direction

Let me talk a bit about the décor, it was very rustic and reminded me of the Camion degli alimentary in Italy. It had no provisions for a table or for that matter even chairs or even plates. To a layman’s eyes this was nothing but a regular fast food store with basic service. But, for an experienced food critic like me, it was art. Each element came together to make a symphony like no other. The rustic décor, represents the state of the world today, broken in half and disfigured in a way. This in sharp contrast to the type of food they serve- fast food. It all made sense, five star was providing insight into the world. We live in a fast age, with technology connecting us with lightning speed. Yet, we are more distant, more aloof. World has moved on at a rapid place but socially we haven’t evolved.

The service at 5 star was not only excellent but we had an excellent waiter serving us- Jagdish (the same one). We ordered fried chicken, fried chicken roll and potato wedges. The fried chicken was like heaven, it had subtle hint of salt and pepper, just enough to make you question whether they forgot to add it in the first place. The chicken was tender on the outside and beautifully pink on the inside. While inexperienced foodies will tell you that the chicken isn’t cooked and fried chicken should be crusty on the outside and tender on the outside. But I hold a different view, the chicken served at 5 star is meant to be served that way.

Much like the décor, this modest chain of fast food fried chicken is trying to tell us something. Something deep about human nature. While its open to interpretation, I believe that 5 star is indicting the chicken industry. Chickens raised for their flesh are typically confined to the massive, windowless sheds that hold tens of thousands of chickens. By leaving the chicken raw, 5 star is telling us something that we’ve ignored for too long, that what we are eating is flesh from another animal, its boldly telling us to face our food and see if we can justify such cruelty for piece of fried grub.

Go here the for the food and the blood on your hands (Thanks Mehta!)
