Visited here on a peaceful weekday evening. Was eating alone, so couldn't order much. Staff was very polite, following the Japanese conduct of honour to their profession and I really loved the authenticity of it. The head chef only spoke Japanese which a found delightful being an otaku and it was a pleasure to watch him wrap sushi with utmost importance, perfecting it. I've had previous experience eating with Aki Bay in their Velachery and Santhome branches. But, this outlet is something different I could say. Don't know what's with the negative reviews here, but for people who know Japanese food, Aki Bay is one of the best South India has. Ambience- A very cosy environment with lanterns and paintings symbolising peace. Has a few manga and magazines lying in the corner. The masks portrait near the book shelf really amused me. Although, could do something about the strong Soy smell around. Service- Professional, respecting and helpful. Food- Ordered two items. Salmon sushi roll and Vege rich ramen. The sushi was really good, and the wasabi touch to it enhances the flavour. Ramen - their original dish, was the best as usual. There's a lot on the menu too. These are the major things I care about in a restaurant. Will keep visiting often to try out everything on the menu. Looking forward to eating Wagyu steak sometime. It is a really rare item and don't know how authentic it is. All in all, 9.5/10. Tips- 1) the strong soy smell to be worked on 2) add more authentic delicacies like char siu on the menu. P.S- Couldn't click any pictures as my phone was dead.

So little with so much. From culture to recipes, Akibay will make you feel Jitaku. Soulful food with beautiful people and their culture. Ramen with add on noodles and karage is a must try at this place. every body is polite and ambience is quite and sumptuous. Though I don’t like the soy smell as soon I enter, which my vegetarian friend uncomfortable. But I have experienced this in other asian country’s restaurants too, so it might be a thing. IDK. Overall lovely experience.

Somehow over the years we never got to taste Japanese food. We had the odd sushi as part of buffets in a few hotels but a true blue Japanese restaurant somehow eluded us until last week when we dropped in at Aki Bay@TVR. The presence of a Japanese chef was encouraging but it was only when Henry appeared that we could navigate the menu. . The Chicken Karaage turned out to be fried chicken, which was tasty enough, but not exactly "Japanese". However, Mutton Nikatsu saved the day; it was tasty and we really liked it. On balance we enjoyed the meal and will definitely go again. With the Velveteen Rabbit being located in the same premises, we could have a pre dinner drink. The decor is simple and neat . We got excellent service from Henry.

The staff was superb and so was the food. This is the place where one can eat japanese cuisine for the first time. The only negative thing is no wifi and no network. Then why cut one star. But food wise superb!

Visited Aki Bay for dinner. We were 2 of us and were super hungry. Ordered a Salmon Sushi and a California sushi roll for starters. This took about 30 minutes to come. Both sushis were fabulous, well made and tasted great. Main course Wagyu Beef with garlic fried rice - 2/5, This being the most pricy dish on the menu. I had great expectations with this but sadly, the beef tasted like it had been frozen for a long time and to make it worse, it was well done and very chewy. I had to spit out most of the pieces into a tissue as it just wasn't edible. The garlic fried rice was average to be honest. Tori Shio Chicken Ramen with a add on of Chicken Karaage - 4/5 The broth was quite good along with the noodles and the fried chicken. Sadly no vegetables at all in the broth. Paid a bill of Rs 2945/- for the 2 of us. So definitely pricey as well. I'd definitely recommend the shushi though and a huge plus is that the chef is from Japan. 🎌

Started with gyoza and it was super fast and loved it 4/5 Then came the tori ramen and was fabulous too tasted like the one in Japan :) 5/5 Next was the salmon sushi roll liked it 4/5 Next was the katsu chicken curry 1/5 Fried chicken was cold and the curry disappointed me big time. Took 40 minutes to arrive. The rice was also cold :( this was the last dish on our plate and took forever. The staff came and told how long it would take. We had to go and ask and they would say 5 minutes every time. 1/5 for the cold chicken and rice and the curry :( I would rate it a 3/5, good for gyoza, ramen and sushi :)

My daughter and I had a bad case of food poisoning after eating here. The California rolls had tomatoes (no mention of this in the menu ) and boiled prawn instead of crab sticks. Prawn in the sushi was smelly. Unfortunately my daughter and I decided to eat it and we sent back the rest (though the charged us for it). The beef too was so chewy , we could barely swallow it and had to spit out many pieces . This, after saying it’s waygu, which is meant to melt in the mouth. Also the fried Japanese prawns, were not deveined. Took a bite of it and realised. So sent that back too. It’s clear that hygiene and storage standards are not being followed. I advise, caution when dining at this place. We have been down with food poisoning last two days , after this meal.

I will start with ambience!! Akibay sounded like authentic Asian/ Japanese restaurant but they made us sit in a pub with very loud music, but we managed to sit and be hopeful about the food. Here comes the food, inside dumplings meat is raw, in sushi rice was spoiled and ramen was served with stinky meat. We called chef to the table to find out, but he refused to accept the ramen as a faulty dish. It was a very bad experience over all. One good thing at the end was they dint charge us for these faulty dishes, thank god!!
