. [ Marwadi food, Gujrathi food , Amazing Rotis - Just go here :) ] :) Craving for home food , do not want to spend. On the busy MG Road - lies this hidden GEM! When I say hidden GEM, They are many GEMS like these in the Secunderabad side which do not catch the attention of the online world but have been diligently catering their customers with utmost satisfaction for decades. This place is just about perfect when you want wholesome home food. I have heard about this place but missed going there as I never figured out where it exactly was plus a hidden fear of of hygiene. A few days back someone mentioned about the place again in one of the forums and that rekindled the interest to find this place. Location: M.G Road: A place filled with traders and merchants with most of them being Gujrathi or Marwadi's, this place is perfectly placed just a little away from the busy place. From MG Road towards Tankbund , leave the Rocha Bazaar lane and 3nd left. Landmarks MAHESH BANK , NEW SANTOSH DHABA , JAIN BHAVAN or best is to ASK ANY SHOP OWNER there :) The food and the experience: I came here hungry and Marwadi thali is something they serve on weekdays and I was looking forward to that. They served: 5 varieties of rotis: Fulka, Misi, Bajra , Jowari and Khoba( which was not included in the thali) + 4 wet curries ( Chane ki daal, Plain daal, Aloo ki sabji and Daal fry(for the rice) and keeps changing daily) + 1 Curry( Was cabbage today and keeps changing) + Rice + 2 curds( sweet or salty) + 1 Sweet( Shrikand) The kitchen experience: I asked if I could see their kitchen and the roti making process and my God, it was surprisingly clean and spacious. All my fears of hygeine were cleared. Two people making rotis very religiously and two assisting the other operations. 4-5 people serving and keeping every customer happy. Check the pic of how the roti's were made( on charcoal), the taste difference from the rotis I've been eating is significant . One of the best fulka's or bajra rotis or Jowar rotis I've had till date. They serve you one roti at a time and serve them hot. Talk about attentive staff and service they are pretty experienced. Jaggery is given for bajra roti and misi roti is best eaten with curd apart from the curries they provide you at the start of the meal. Once you are done with the rotis( oh ya unlimited!!) , they serve you rice and papad with Daal fry( they had this done in ghee and not dalda, phew!), My God the daal fry. I'm not being superlative when I say it was impeccable. I saw some patrons just order rice and daal fry for lunch and when I asked them they told this has been there lunch for many many years. They served Shrikand( beautifully done goes great with one of the rotis too) and a complimentary buttermilk(salted with jeera powder) and that was just about perfect end to a beautiful and wholesome lunch. I did not get up heavy at the end of this meal, but ate to my heart's content. Conclusion: I'm very fond of good food, very fond of food experiences like these which open your eyes to the world of simplicity. I've been a very happy person all day after this meal. A *very very special mention to M. Suresh* , an elderly person who served with so much affection, explained the best way to eat the rotis and also explained what went into their making. I was overwhelmed and touched with his genuine interest to serve his customers. Heard he has been like this for a lot of patrons who have been visiting this place for long. The tasty yet healthy food, the complete value for money, all gift wrapped in such affectionate service makes this the 2nd place to get a 5/5 for me and the first in Hyderabad. This was a *culinary temple of satisfaction* experience. Kudos and lots of respect and appreciation from my side. NOTE: Weekends are even more special with an addition of a sweet and Namkeen and costs 120 Rs. ( Badam milk semiya payasam, Onion pakoda and pooris were the additions) Weekdays are 100 Rs. Sunday, They are open till 3:30 PM only. Friday's or Thursday, I heard they serve amazing khichdi. Some pictures for you guys for the virtual experience. Cheers!

Heard about this place on a foodies forum and also from a colleague of mine. since then wanted to visit this. Finally we decided to go on a Sunday. Location: while going from mg road towards tank band, as soon as u cross the James street police station take second left. It will be visible there. Landmark: Jain Bhavan. You also have a santosh dhaba opppsite to this. The hotel is a small place which hardly holds 10-15 tables of four each. They serve a thali which costs rs 100 on week days and rs 120 on weekends. we went on Sunday. The thali begins with a bonda/pakoda served along with chutney. Then comes the main course: 5 different types of rotis (phulka, jowar, bajra, missi and other one) , 3 sabzis ( we were given rajma, paneer butter and palak paneer), dal followed by rice, papad and achar. We were given kheer as dessert which was one of the best n yummiest i ever had. All these served unlimitedly with lots of love and affection. There's one kaka here who needs a special mention. He literally forces you to to eat and eat till ur stomach bursts out that too "bahut pyaar se". A must visit place for veggie/rajasthani/marwadi food lovers. Trust me you won't be disappointed. Food-5/5 Ambience-4/5 Hospitality-6/5 :D VFM- 5/5

This is gem of a place, which serves simple yet authentic Marwari and Gujarati thalis. This place is tucked in a lane on MG Road, quite opposite to Mahesh Bank. Welcomed by an elderly person who is very humble and eager to serve people real good. He walks us through the items in thali quite diligently, even explains us on the combinations in which rotis are to be eaten. They serve 5 to 6 varieties of rotis which include bajra, misi, jawar, phulka etc. All of which are served piping hot, out from the oven. Everything on the thali is served of unlimited portions. The curries are low on spices but tasty. Ended the meal with Shrikand, which is also very good. The price is very affordable for the quantity and quality they serve. Surely, one will leave the place very much satisfied. If you are looking for simple homely cooked food in and around Secunderabad, this is the place to go.

Growing up, my neighbours were Gujaratis and having a dad who lived in Mumbai more than half of his life, gujju food is comfort food. This place can be described in one word, "NOSTALGIC". Since it was a Sunday, I got to eat the special thali. There was Dal, Peas Subzi, Aloo Subzi, Kadi Pakoda (of which I had 3 servings and also stole my fiancé's share :P), 4 kinds of rotis (Jowar, Bajra, Missi and Phulka), Puri (which I din't eat), Rice, Papad and a really yummy Gulab Jamun. The food was well seasoned and not overtly spicy. If you are looking for some wholesome, comfort food with a good slathering of ghee on your rotis, this is the place. In short, loved the food, and kudos to the uncle who served so much food that ended up over eating. P.S- do not hesitate to try such hole in the wall places. Sometimes these experiments pay off big time!

Nice, Simple and Homely food ( 100 rs)@ Shree shyam nivas, MG Road, Secunderabad. Do not expect good ambience...this is more of a mess than a hotel. However food is good and also the hospitality.

Shree Shyam Nivas is a devout place adjacent to a small temple on the 1st floor in a busy by-lane of Rani Gunj area and the best way to reach this place should be on a 2-wheeler. Anyone who loves simple marwari food should go there and if you prefer a quiet cosy corner, be there by 12 Noon or by 7 PM. Marwari Thali is the best way you can relish your food there. You will be offered a regular pulka followed by a Jowari roti , Bajra roti and then a khoba roti. You can then decide which roti that you can order as a repeat (Unlimited). You will have 3 veg curries and 1 dry fry item which can be refilled as you go by and at the end can opt for rice along with a masala papad with either regular curd or sweet curd.....and all this for Rs 120/- . Go there and enjoy it

Had Lunch at SHREE SHYAM NIVAS located at MG Road , Secunderabad . For the first time had a Marwadi Food & was a good experience . Problem was to locate the restaurant , but credit to its popularity when u reach Mahesh Bank Ranigunj road & ask any shop owner he will direct you to this place . Had a Thali , they served different variety of #Hotrotis (unlimited I guess) 3 variety of Curry & Allo sabzi which was YUMM went well with Rotis and of course Rice & Curd. Rice was a let down , because it was served Cold. Overall if you like Marwadi Food and it been Pocket Friendly 100rs. This is the place to be Summer special Mango juice was not yet available .
