As a curious Bengali, Kolkata is my El Dorado, offering surprises at every corner. In the midst of our busy lives, we often escape to air-conditioned cafes and diners for comfort food like pastas and pizzas. However, there's a timeless place simply called Café at Hazra that continues to stand tall amidst the modern hustle. Established in 1937, this café remains a nostalgic haven, with an open front maintaining the quintessential "rock'r adda" atmosphere. The deep blue walls, wooden chairs and tables, high ceilings, and vintage fans evoke a sense of history. One side of the cafe has a cabin-style environment, providing a bit of privacy between tables. This café has been a favorite spot for many famous Bengali personalities over the years. A visit to Café demands a cup of their simple, hot coffee—not the fancy cappuccinos or mochas, but a straightforward brew that might just be the best you've had outside your home. The food here is exceptional. As a mutton lover, I was delighted by their gravy mutton stew, which was indescribably delicious. The chicken Afghani was equally impressive, bursting with flavor; the mutton was lightly spiced, while the chicken was robust and well-balanced. The highlight of the meal was the bread pudding, crowned with airy meringue. The café perfectly embodies the adda culture of Kolkata, where conversations span politics, books, cinema, and everyday life. This café is a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience the authentic flavor of Kolkata's culinary and cultural heritage. Highly recommended! The price is very reasonable. Thumbs up for this place.

'Vintage Charm' that dates back to the time, when Modernization didn't hit 'Calcutta' (read Kolkata). A slice of pure nostalgia in Bhawanipore area, beside Jatin Das Park Metro Station. You might not or might have heard about this cafe, and well, if you're looking forward to explore Kolkata, then this should be there in your bucket list. Won't over-exaggerate or over-hype the place! But, it's worth it💙. Fish Kabiraji is a must try. 🌟And the showstopper is the 'Pudding' with a meringue on top! I would highly recommend you this place ❤️.

Once you step into this age old pre Independence cafe, the time seems to be stopped. A vintage charm, some nostalgia will gulp you. I really like their Gravy Mutton Chaap with slices of bread. The taste is on the sweet side which I really enjoy. But the showstopper is the Pudding. I have never eaten something so sumptuous, so spoon-licking good food. A must try for all 'Calcutta'-lovers. ❤

One plate chicken stew equals to one plateful of bliss. This is how I felt after having tasted the chicken stew of this age old cafe. Just awesome. I also tasted their foam pudding. Lovely. This age old pre independence cafe made my heart soar. Staff very alert and caring, especially I must mention one Amal who took very good care of me. Price reasonable. Parking impossible.

This cafe is located through Jatin Das Park Gate No. 3. Be it cafe or restaurant or cabin style - whatever you call the place, time seems to stop as soon as you step in, fans hanging from the ceiling, names on the walls in cheap pens and people busy with ongoing tea-cigarette-chat. Perhaps in one of these charioteers like Uttam Kumar, Manna De sat. The jump here opens around 3-4 in the afternoon. That's how I reached with Colleague Since stew is always a favorite, it starts with two baked breads. The mild sweetness was not bad due to the abundance of onion batter. Then came chicken cutlet, fish fry, coffee one by one. Although the fish fillet in the fry was a bit thin, it was good to eat, the amount of meat in the cutlet was good. Finally, there was the foam pudding. It has to be cut into vertical sections and then slowly taken in the mouth; But be careful that the foam does not fall, both must be eaten together to enjoy the fun.

Located just behind the Jatin Das Park metro station and beside Chittaranjan cancer hospital, the place is full of old calcutta vibes I loved the ambience as personally I'm a fan of old calcutta charm Coming to the food, coffee was good, fish chop and pudding were really good, chicken kobiraji was okayish but the fish fry disappointed me a lot Price is on a higher note Hospitality is good no doubt Overall had a nice experience there

Very conveniently located adjacent to the Jatin Das Park metro station(exit 3A), this cafe is more like one of those old style cabins. We tried fish fry, fish roll, tea, coffee and pudding. Fish fry is of good size but a little more salt would have been good. The fish roll has a kabiraji coating on it. The pudding is mildly sweet and nice.

This café perfectly captures the old Calcutta charm with its inviting ambience. The famous bread pudding lived up to its reputation—light, delicious, and not overly sweet. Their customizable coffee is excellent, and the fish fry was equally tasty. A wonderful spot for a nostalgic culinary experience.

Cafe at Hazra Moore has been standing there since 1937. Though this is named as ‘cafe’ but this is basically an old-school cabin with wooden doors and windows and marble-top tables. They remain open from 3 to 9 PM na have very selected menu. The best selling items here are : Fish Fry Chicken Fry (Cutlet) Kabiraji Afgani Cutlet (Chicken and Mutton) Stew with bread toasts Fish Chop and Vegetable Chop I somehow felt that the prices are a bit high when compared with the quantity or the sizes but the taste is perfect. I somehow wish these places to survive as long as possible, hence I don’t mind the price. If you go there, don’t miss their pudding at the end. And yes, you will get your cup of tea and coffee too. Nowadays, this place is frequented by food bloggers too but you will see some known faces coming here every evening for their daily dose of adda with tea and snacks.

Few days back we visited Cafe which is situated near Jatin Das Metro Station. This is one of the oldest cafe in south kolkata. We tried their chicken kabiraji and pudding. Chicken Kabiraji : ₹160/- Pudding : ₹80/- Chicken Kabiraji was not too good nor bad. The outer layer was thick. But the pudding was really good. Must try their pudding.
