Mitra Cafe is famous for their Fish kabiraji , Fish Fry and Diamond Fish Fry. They serve authentic vetki Fish . Price is reasonable with awesome quality. There is no compromise in quality that's why they are known widely. I would highly recommend this place.

🟣 When I was in college, I used to look for pocket friendly destinations where we can have good food and a great time, truth be told pocket money was very tight back then. I used to roam around looking for places in North Kolkata, and found a whole lot of places, one such is Mitra Cafe, we became regulars over there. Mitra Cafe was set up by Ganesh Mitra in 1910 on Jatindra Mohan Avenue. He was unable to run it successfully, and two years after opening, he gave it to his childhood friend, Sushil Roy, who retained his close friend's name for the cafe. Well known for its range of chops and cutlets, Mitra Cafe's signature dish is its Brain Chop, a delicacy that is difficult to come across in the other eateries of Kolkata. Although the recipe is a trade secret, one can get a rough idea of what goes in the dish. Mitra Cafe is one of the very few eateries in Kolkata that serves Afghani Cutlet. Th Britishers enjoyed eating chops and cutlets in slightly thick gravies. The cooks working for them would replicate this recipe with crumbled cutlets. In this cafe, this dish is made with fish, prawn, chicken and mutton cutlets. Since its early days, Mitra Cafe has been an evening joint. The restaurant is close to the Star Theatre and veteran Bengali actors like Late Soumitra Chatterjee and Late Uttam Kumar would often drop by for a quick bite after a theatre show. Even now, Mitra Cafe is packed evry evening with people from North Kolkata and frequented by commuters from all over the city who are keen to try out its fare. Ordered from their menu : 🔴 Egg Mutton Devil - Rs. 70 🔴 Fish Fry - Rs. 130 🔴 Choco Pudding - Rs. 90 🟢 The easiest route to reach there is to take an exit from Shobhabazar Metro Station (Gate No. 1) walk straight, cross the road and look to your right, you will be able to see the board of Mitra Cafe in bold yellow letters. 🟢 The decor used to be very minimal, marble top tables stacked with wooden chairs and all the achievements hung up on the wall. Now, it has been fully renovated, the walls have been painted with graffiti and the place is well lit now. But, the marble top tables are still there to add that nostalgic touch. 🟢 There are two seating areas, on is AC and another one is Non-AC, the AC section is for the couples or people who com with their families. 🟢 There may come a time where you have to share your table with someone else. 🟢 GST is applicable in both the seating areas. 🟢 One of the major advantages of eating there is the food is very fresh as it is prepared on day to day basis and their service time is really quick. 🟢 One of the game changers is their salad and their in-house kasundi. The sald is mixture of veggies like carrot, cucumber, onion, bets and boiled potatoes and their kasundi has a unique flavour and it is very different from the kasundis we regularly have. 🟢 Coming to the food : 🟨 Egg Mutton Devil - The Egg Mutton Devil is a must try. The crumb is full of minced mutton and half an egg is placed inside that mixture, fried and served with their kasundi. The crunch and the softness together makes it a must try item. 🟨 Fish Fry - A Bhetki fillet is marianted with spices which has very good balance and deep fried. The crumb is crunchy and the fish has its original flavour retained in it. 🟨 Choco Pudding - This is one of their signature items, a very quick selling item, if you don't be there on time, you might not get it. A cold chana pudding topped with chocolate sauce. I used to have this everytime I visited there but this time the quality has fell a bit, with the increased price, I don't think it is justified. 🟢 One of their low-key combos is the Porota and Chicken Kosha. If you are looking for dinner, that is the best combo to have. 🟢 They have 3 other outlets in Golpark, Shyambazar and Dumdum. 🟢 Accepts cash and cards only. 🟢 Available in food aggregator apps for delivery.

I heard a lot about the place and always wanted to visit. Luckily I got a table without waiting. The place has two sections. The non AC section is outside and the AC section is inside. The place is really small. We had 🔹Fish fry - The fish fillet was of good proportion but the size was really small as per the price. The taste was average, nothing to mention as such. I have had better fish fry at many other joints. 🔹Fish Roll - I was highly disappointed with this. The stuffing of the fish was too less and the taste was a little bit too sweet for me. Overall the experience was average and a bit disappointing. The fish fry was better than the fish roll but looking at the pocket pinch it was not worth it. Somewhere I feel the quality has dropped in recent times.

This is a popular destination for Bhaja-bhuji in Kolkata. We tried their highly recommended chicken cutlet and mutton cutlet. Both are nicely shaped cutlets with curved edges and perfectly crunchy crust of breadcrumbs. Mild spicy filling inside was lip smacking. They served it with kasundi and salad. Service was quite good. The staff are very courteous. Price wise a bit high and also getting a table might be challenging.

This was my first visit to Mitra cafe , generally I had high hopes as it is one of the Kolkata's most renowned and old cafes. This cafe is serving good food in Kolkata since 1910. Now come to the main point the food. we ordered ⬜ Fish kobiraji ⬜ Chicken kobiraji ⬜ Mutton chop their mutton chop is a must try food . overall it was a nice experience visiting there though I feel prices are a bit High.

242/- rupees (including GST) is not worthy for the portion they serve for Diamond Fish Fry. It’s fine for one time experience to the nostalgic place, though it lost its charm.

It was my first visit here and due to obvious reasons i had very high hopes. First we ordered fish kobiraji as per suggestion from them, but it was absolutely tasteless. But still we wanted to give another dish a try. So we ordered chicken pakora...i have never had such bad chicken pakoras in my entire life...even the smallest of the roadside stalls make it better. There were only bones and absolutely no meat inside the pakoras. The coating even was too hard for some reason. Such a bad experience at such a renowned place, with both the dishes.

This is the worst thing I ever faced at a restaurant. Waited there for almost 45 mins just to hear that they are having no fish dishes to serve. The time was around 7pm. This is seriously not at all expected.
