|NIHARI AT SUFIA, KOLKATA| We, the people of Kolkata, have certain obsession over roadside morning breakfasts no matter what. Strings of local stalls selling kochuri sobji, radhaballavi, luchi cholar dal etc. is ultimately what we crave for. But, irrespective of those regular meals, why not try something different this time? Sufia's famous warm breakfast gives one such experience where people queue up early in the morning especially during the winters. 🔹 ABOUT NIHARI- The word 'Nihari' came from the Arabic word, 'Nahar' meaning 'morning'. It is made from the shank meat of beef along with the bone marrow. Slow cooked for 6-8 hours, the meat is cooked with spices in huge vessels sealed with dough. 🔹 WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT IT? It is said that Nihari was eaten on an empty stomach by the Nawabs during the Mughal period as a breakfast meal usually after the morning prayers. Soon as years passed by, it gained popularity as a home remedy for cold, fever, boosting immunity etc along with it's satisfying taste. Sufia Restaurant, an age-old establishment having mediocre ambiance yet setting the bar high when it comes to serving mouth watering nihari & paya. Two big tender pieces of meat is served in a plate (Rs 140/-) with coriander leaves and chillies garnished on the top going perfectly with gorom gorom dal puris/tandoori rotis (Rs 5/- pc) Lastly, don't forget to squeeze lemon into the dish as it takes you to a whole new aromatic ride. So, sacrifice your sleep for one morning & don't forget to thank me later. ✅ Available only in Beef ✅ Takeaway available ✅ Timings: Mon-Sun, 5am- 8am (go as early as possible)

For the best nihari experience, head straight to Sufia in Burrabazar. The early morning rush is quite a sight as people line up for there nihari. Served with either tandoori roti or puri, its nothing less than a heavenly experience.

(For beef eaters) If you are asking for a breakfast destination that too during winters, I will highly recommend you this place. Beef nihari, their signature dish is being served early in the morning and after evening too. Make sure to visit before 9 AM in the morning or after 7PM in the evening. Coming to the food, we tried beef nihari with tandoori roti you can try it with fried bread (luchi) as well, don't forget to squeeze the lemon on top of it. Cost for two, 300 (approx). Sitting arrangement is good, not much comfortable but okay.

Had a visit during this Ramzan month. Heard a lot about their Haleem, so it was must for us to try that. But by the time we reached (4:30 p.m.) Mutton Haleem was already sold out, so we had to go for Chicken & we tasted the worst Haleem in our lives. I don't know what but the taste was just bad and only one bony chicken piece was there. But which I love i.e. their Beef Biryani. It's one of the best I have ever had and the tenderness of the meat was just spot on.

Went there yesterday for haleem. We entered around 7pm and both mutton and chicken haleem were finished by then. So we took beef haleem. This is one of the best haleem i have tasted so far. There were 5-6 small meat pieces and gravy was very thick. Taste was awesome. I have tried haleem in different reputed Kolkata and Hyderabad outlets but Sufia was much better. Sitting arrangement is quite decent.

Located at the heart of Zakaria Street near Bara Bazar, a very famous hub of typical north Indian food with flavourful kebabs and biriyani and beef items. A wonderful must try out place for all beef lovers. Really tasty food and freshly cooked. The only thing dissapointing was the availability of food items.

If you are visiting Sufia for breakfast, make sure you have enough time to wait. You will not get a seat easily. Needless to say, they are famous for their Nihari (which gets over by 7am) but I prefer my Nihari with Tandoori Roti instead of the Puris that they serve. The puri has a lot of oil in it, not at all suggested for someone who has acid and gastric issues. Also, the nihari is spicy. Also, do not try to forget their beef dishes with roti. They are brilliant, especially the keema beef, beef shami kebab. Also, if you are visiting on a Saturday, do not miss their special chicken pulao. That simply goes brilliant if teamed with some Mutton- Tomato Stew or some Beef Keema Curry.

Mutton haleem had just 2 pieces of bony mutton, though the meat was very soft..it was overly spicy. Had this paired with Tandoori Roti..which was served cold. Firni was ok-ok. Staff is polite but tip hungry. Hygiene should be improved.

We ordered haleem and sahi tukda. Haleem was not that great as we expected this to be. But dahi tukda was light and good.
