A true hidden gem nestled in the lanes of Marine Lines serving Goan food like you would have in a Goan friend’s home. In what was, and still is quite a bit, a predominantly Catholic area, is situated C D’Souza. More than a restaurant it is a portal that will transport you to a different time and place. The time being, a more romantic, slow-paced past and the place, the quaint bylanes of a Goan village. The genial, ever-smiling and helpful owner, Jude, will welcome you into a simple, yet characterful room, surrounded by antique wooden furniture and paintings by upcoming artists. He will then proceed to warn you that you will only enjoy the place if you are a hardcore non vegetarian. Music to my ears! Once it’s settled that the meatier the merrier, he will proceed to give you his recommendations. Best to leave the menu and listen to Jude…he knows what he is saying. The second warning he will issue is that the food will take time…everything is freshly prepared. We started off with a Chicken Cutlet unlike any cutlet I’ve eaten before (& trust me I’ve eaten quite a few). This cutlet is thick, stuffed to the brim with chicken mince, coated with semolina and deep fried. It comes to your table hot and you can instantly feel the freshness of the food. My wife ordered a pork sorpotel with pav. The pav was the softest I’ve eaten and was served warm. The sorpotel perfectly spiced with generous pieces of pork and offal. I ordered a steak with onions, potatoes ands a sunny side up egg. The steak was so tender that one didn’t need a steak knife to cut through it…a regular dinner knife was adequate. The sauce was peppered with, well, peppercorns, yet wasn’t spicy. On the contrary the grilled onions leant it a subtle sweetness. The fried potato slices were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect to soak up all that beautiful sauce. The steak was washed down with a refreshing fresh lime soda. For desserts, they have a variety of fruit tarts and plum cake. The owner generously sent us two slices of plum cake and rest assured, I will be picking up a bar of the same on my next visit. Talking about my next visit, it will be very soon. As I keep hearing stories of how Goa isn’t the same anymore…too crowded, too expensive, lost its soul etc etc…I think a trip to C D’Souza seems better than booking a flight to the erstwhile sunshine state.

I had seen a couple of reels of this restaurant and finally got to try it today . Do not go here if u are in a hurry , they make the food fresh to order and it takes time , and they inform you of that upfront which is a good idea . That 20 minutes or so waiting time is well spent having a chat with the friendly and hospitable owner or just taking a few minutes to unwind in the old world laid back charm of the place . I was working on a work project and the owner graciously shared the Wi-Fi as well . Coming to the food .. it’s delicious no frills Goan food . We had the sausage chilly fry with Pao as well as the mutton cutlet and Mutton potato chop . The food was all very flavourful and well priced for the portions provided . Hope they open up for dinner too soon , would definitely like to be back and try more of the dishes . A very pleasant experience in both food and service

It's not a fast food place. They make it very clear that the wait will be 30 mins but the food is so fresh and delicious. And I'm saying this because they had the freshest rice I've eaten at a restaurant, made to order. The prawn curry was fantastic with big, juicy prawns. The cafreal was perfectly spiced and tender. They gave us filipino Leche Flan and some plum cake on the house. I took home some fruit tarts which were delish. The owner was very friendly and the place was super clean and newly renovated. On the pricier end but the quality and portion sizes make it worth the buck. Would recommend for non veg folks who want authentic Goan Catholic food.

Tucked away in the heart of bustling Bombay, this cozy Goan restaurant & café is a true hidden gem. The ambience exudes warmth and charm, instantly transporting you to Goa. We tried the Ross Omelette, Steak and Mutton Cutlet each dish bursting with authentic Goan flavors and generous portions perfect for two. Though there’s a 30-minute wait (clearly mentioned by them), the freshness and taste make it worth every minute. A sweet gesture with a complimentary dessert sealed the experience just how a true Goenkar would love it.

Amazing place… although we were late they welcomed us and didn’t let us leave without some food. We had the Chicken Xacuti, Mutton curry, Rice and Pav and for desserts Blueberry & Strawberry tarts. The food is well cooked and the hospitality is 10/0. They close at 7.30 pm so if you want to have a taste of Goa in the heart of Mumbai you definitely need to come here

A hidden gem that deserves a chance. Good food with lot of natural masalas. Fish Rachedo amd Squid was fresh. Mutton green curry is a must have with loads of fresh rice.. Its different for sure. Hardcore Goan so be prepared for tbe authetic taste. Above all is hygiene and good cutlery. The paintings in the interior are also fascinating.

A restaurant that is indeed authentic to the taste, it’ll take you back to Goa undoubtedly! The owners have a warm presence and make you feel welcomed. Fresh and tasty food! The tart and cake were melt in the mouth and as moist as it could get. 10/10
