Love their pastas, bagels and desserts! I frequently enjoy their fresh bagels - pictured here is the feta and caramelised onion bagel. Soooo goood.

Our schedules seemed to be all over the place today, so we had to settle for a power lunch. I had been to Paninaro before so I suggested this place. It is in the Peninsula Corporate Park in the building that houses the Peninsula Club. If a sandwich, chips and a beverage are your meal preference, Paninaro checks all the boxes. The stars all aligned and off we were to Paninaro. Paninaro is this outlet in a mall-like setting, except that the building is no mall; it is an annex to a Corporate Park. The good thing is that it is at street level and there are a few choices including a couple of coffee/tea shops, and a sit-down place. There is a glass wall that separates the eatery from the corridor. The place is functional with a few high chairs in a table and wall side counter setting. The wall side counter is good for those going solo and there are high tables and chairs for groups. The layout of the place is very clean. The sandwiches, wraps, salads, and beverages are easily visible from the ordering counter – this is in addition to specials on the chalkboard, a large sunboard menu mounted on an easel and small menus all around. The sandwiches are packed in triangular packages with clear film fronts – very similar to the packaging done by an English retailer. There is a small kitchenette in an alcove-ish area that has a prep and assembly facility. This is where sandwiches are grilled, wraps heated and hot beverages prepared. For in-house diners, the food is plated, albeit on plastic trays lined with sandwich wrap paper. Ambiance gets a thumbs up. We ordered the Grilled Chicken with Lemon and Coriander sandwich, the Cream Cheese, Organic Mustard, and Pickles sandwich, our beverages included a non-alcoholic beer and we had chips on the side. The Grilled Chicken sandwich was served toasted. The tartness of the lemon, the freshness of the coriander and the delicately flavored moist chicken, all rendered really well. The Cream Cheese was another story: the cream cheese was nothing like the Philly Cream Cheese if that is what one might expect; it was more like hung cheese - it was not creamy and it had a rather sour flavor. Then I did not taste the mustard - organic or otherwise. The pickles were scarce but I sensed the crunchy cucumbers, I think. The Cream Cheese sandwich was and is supposed to be delivered cold – that was not the reason for the disappointment – it did not meet expectations. The only redeeming feature was the multi-grain bread. Not much to comment on the chips – they were standard. The non-alcoholic beer was fantastic; it had the right flavors and was delivered at the optimal temperature and so were the sodas. So, on food, it was a one for two – an average score. Service was very much fast food like, except that it could vary depending on the mood of the person at the counter. We were lucky, our order taker/server was pleasant. That said, their knowledge of the offerings is not stellar. One suggestion is that all servers ought to have tried out all of the offerings so they can better describe the dishes. Our server said there were sun-dried tomatoes in our Cream Cheese sandwich. It was obvious, he had not tried it out. Service, for those reasons, gets a bare thumbs up. I liked the concept and would certainly go back to Paninaro. I wish that the menu – especially for the sandwiches and wraps – gets a bit bolder: like egg and watercress in mayo sandwich; similar to the ones that are available at the English retailer. I also wish they use real cream cheese – what we had tasted was more like soft hung cheese. As I said, we liked the ambiance and the beverages – for the right temperature they were served at. It would also be good if the servers had a better knowledge of their products – the one way is to ensure this is if they are able to experience the taste first hand of all the products that are offered. On balance, I would have to rate Paninaro as acceptable but clearly not stellar at this point. There is every possibility that Paninaro might exceed expectations someday.

Quick fresh, healthy and yummy sandwiches and paninis. Its also conveniently located right amidst the corporate hub for quick access. The price however is on the higher side for the value it offers.
