The Comfort of Getting It Right: Sandhouse and the Art of the All-Day Diner There is a certain kind of restaurant that Gurugram has been quietly perfecting over the last decade — and it has nothing to do with the theatrical fine-dining spectacles or the Instagram-first rooftop bars that dominate the conversation. I am talking about the neighbourhood diner. The kind of place that doesn't announce itself with a press release or a celebrity chef's name above the door, but simply opens its arms and says: come as you are, eat what you want, stay as long as you like. Sandhouse, tucked into the busy but pleasantly walkable stretch of 32nd Avenue, is precisely that kind of place. And I say that as a compliment of the highest order. The space greets you honestly. Warm wooden interiors, the sort that suggest considered design without shouting about it, comfortable booths that actually invite you to linger rather than the punishing minimalist seating that has become fashionable in so many newer establishments. There is also an alfresco section outside — and if you visit on one of those perfect October or November evenings when Gurugram briefly remembers what pleasant weather feels like, I would strongly recommend you make use of it. It has the easy, unhurried quality of a European pavement café, which is no small achievement on a commercial strip in the NCR. I visited on a weekend afternoon, which is perhaps the best time to understand what a place like this is really about. The crowd was a pleasing cross-section: young couples, a few people with laptops and the faraway look of the perpetually deadline-ridden, and families with the kind of dogs that have decided they own the outdoor furniture. The vibe, as the younger generation insists on calling atmosphere, was calm and genuinely comfortable — not the manufactured calm of a spa, but the natural calm of a place where nobody is performing. I began, as I almost always do, with coffee. The Caramel Macchiato arrived well-made — the restaurant uses 100% Arabica beans, which should be the bare minimum in 2024 but is still, depressingly, not always the case. The caramel was present without being cloying, the espresso had the backbone it needed, and the milk was steamed to that ideal temperature that so many otherwise decent cafés seem incapable of achieving. A small thing, perhaps, but it told me something important about the kitchen's attention to detail. Then came the BBQ Chicken Pizza, and here Sandhouse showed genuine ambition dressed in casual clothing. The combination — onion, roasted chicken, jalapeños, mushrooms, and buffalo mozzarella — might sound like a roll-call of pizza toppings found everywhere. But the truffle BBQ sauce was the decisive element. It added a low, earthy richness that threaded through the entire pizza, preventing it from becoming either too sweet or too sharp. Buffalo mozzarella, it must be said, is always the right choice when the option exists: it melts differently, carries a slight tang, and makes everything it touches more interesting. The crust had the right amount of give — not the doughy thickness that leaves you feeling defeated, nor the crackerlike thinness that has nothing to offer. But it was the OG Fried Chicken that made the strongest case for Sandhouse's kitchen. Fried chicken in a brioche bun has become something of a cultural flashpoint in Indian dining over the last few years, and the results have been wildly variable — from genuinely excellent to the deeply dispiriting. Sandhouse lands firmly in the former category. The buttermilk marinade had done its work properly: the chicken was moist all the way through, with the kind of spicing that builds gradually rather than assaulting you upfront. The crust was that elusive combination of crisp and light, not the leaden armour that some establishments mistake for crunch. Pickles and red cabbage slaw cut through the richness exactly as they should, and the Sandhouse OC sauce — the house special — added a creamy, mildly tangy counterpoint that tied the whole thing together. The brioche bun, home-baked according to the menu, was soft and slightly sweet in the way that only a properly made brioche can be. It is a very good burger. Not just good for Gurugram — good by any reasonable standard. What Sandhouse understands, and what so many restaurants in this city are still learning, is that comfort food is not an excuse for imprecision. The opposite is true: precisely because there is nowhere to hide behind technique or theatre, the fundamentals must be right. The quality of the chicken, the temperature of the oil, the balance of the sauce — these are the things that matter, and they are the things that Sandhouse has clearly thought about. There will be those who argue that a place like this lacks the glamour to command serious attention. I would disagree. In my experience, the restaurants that endure — that become genuinely beloved rather than briefly fashionable — are almost always the ones that prioritise the experience of eating over the performance of it. Sandhouse is that kind of place. Go for brunch. Go for a weekday lunch when you need to think clearly and eat well. Go with your dog, if you have one. Go without a reservation, without a reason, without the expectation of being impressed. The food will do that quietly, on its own terms. That, in the end, is the only kind of impression worth making.

Its a cost outlet in 32nd avenue serving finger foods sandwiches pizzas and other options as well. I ordered sloppy joe and garden burger. Both were decent and came with order of sides as well. They removed the service charge as well on the bill. Must visit for sanwich lovers.

I have been to this restaurant in the past and I like how pocket and the food is also very decent. So yesterday I visited after a long time, and I have to admit that the staffs are very rude, and 32nd Avenue is a pet friendly place, but the restaurant did not allow my pet. Also, when they have a sitting outside, it’s a big no for me. I would never visit this place again.
