About the Event

Patua Painting, originating in West Bengal, is a traditional Indian folk art form. Typically, this artistic expression takes place on a fabric known as a pati or patta. The paintings are skillfully sewn onto scrolls, with additional reinforcement from repurposed fabric from old saris attached to the back. These scrolls may feature a singular scene or panel from an overarching narrative, or they could showcase imaginative depictions of animals and scenes crafted by the artist.
