The first thing that you’ll observe once you reach Gopi Dining hall is the simple setup. It’s one of those restaurants which has just the bare minimum things to call it a restaurant. True to its essence, Gopi Dining hall just serves Gujarati and Kathiyawadi Thali. One thing you must note (if you are visiting for the first time) is that the location of Gopi Dining Hall on Google Maps is incorrect. Gopi Dining hall serves only Gujarati and Kathiawadi thali, the former for lunch and the latter for dinner only. One thing you’ll immediately note is the pricing. They have ‘weird’ pricing in my opinion. The most basic Gujarati thali costs Rs 280 which is limited, the unlimited thali is Rs 330. The catch is it doesn’t include sweets. You pay Rs 360 for 1 sweet and Rs 390 for 2 sweets. I don’t know the reasoning behind this, but that’s how it is. I took the full thali with two sweets. One thing that I truly loved about this Gujarati thali was that there was no Paneer curry in this thali. It was a proper, authentic Gujarati thali. We had Aloo sabzi, a bottle gourd curry, one with lobia, a Palak subzi and finally the traditional sweet dal and Kadhi. When compared to Gujarati Thali at Gordhan Thal, this is more authentic without any bells and whistles (no Paneer curry, no fancy starters etc.) The food is delicious. You’ll get authentic Gujarati flavours, that’s guaranteed. Even the service is good and quick.

2020 will go down in history as the year that redefined eating out. The new dining normal — balancing physical distancing and tight fiscal parameters — will be founded on extreme food safety, controlled footfalls and innovative menus. After the unprecedented three months of lockdown,Quenching your dine-out dream will no longer be a dream. Following the state government’s fresh orders on allowing restaurants and hotels to reopen their ‘dine-in’ facility, eateries in the city are all set to greet food lovers with thermal scanners and sanitisers along with their special cuisines. Begining with our Favourite, Well-known and one of the oldest Gujarati restuarant of Ahmedabad GOPI DINING HALL. @gopidininghall Gujarati thali offers a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, each with its unique cooking style, different kinds of pickles, farsans, sweets, chutneys and foods that are always high on nutritional value. But the real essence of Gujarati food lies in the creative use of everyday vegetables and mild spices. *Menu* : Sweet : Aamras & Mohanthal Farsan : Mix bhajiya & Paper dhokla Sabji : Bhinda masala, Mix Vegetable,Rasawala bataka & Fangavela Mag Roti/Puri ,Rice,Dal/Kadhi ,Sarevada,Papad,Chatni,Aachar,Salad, Chhas.

Nice Gujarati food. I liked poori and sweet a lot and my son enjoyed the roti and dal. The staff were very friendly. We were recommended this place by our host during heritage walk in Ahmadabad. We are very thankful to him for the suggestion and would say the same to anyone who is visiting the city. We also met the owner and were asking about namkeen shops for taking back home. He recommended induben house and he personally took us to the place in his car. Unfortunately it was closed due to festival . He was more upset than us and said he will try another branch but that too was close so we could not get the snack but we were extremely happy to meet such person.

Thali lover can't miss this place. One of the oldest place in the city. It serves amazing food. Quantity is perfect. Quality is very good. Ambience is decent. Service is quick.

The place is well known for it's Gujrati thali system, somewhat similar to Rajdhani in Mumbai. I happened to visit this place on my visit to Ahmedabad as we were searching for places for lunch. The menu can be confusing with fix thali and thali, i think thali being unlimited. But even with the fix thali option, you get 6 rotis full of ghee, which is enough for a person. Anything outside the thali is chargeable, if you see another waiter on your table with a platter full of desserts. The food variety is good but it is on a sweeter side for people preferring spicy food. Kathiyawadi thali is only served in the evening. The ambience is traditional and the price does not justify the thali, as its priced at 250 rs for fixed thali. However they make you feel as if you are dining as your relative with their friendly concerns. It's a good experience to have though. They have an updated address for the ellis bridge outlet so do confirm it with the outlet.

Back to back bad experience with Gujarati Thali restaurants. In May, I visited Annkut and the experience was just cold. Last night, we visited Gopi with the family, and it was an unplanned visit. Originally, we wanted to go to Toran Dining Hall, but it remains closed on Monday evening, so instantly Gopi came to my mind and decided to visit their Ellisbridge outlet. I have been wanting to visit Gopi for many years, but couldn't get to visit somehow. I had heard quite a few good reviews about the place, so my expectations were high. When we entered the restaurants, the atmosphere was quite lukewarm. The servers seemed to be tired and inattentive. There are two options for cuisine, one is Gujarati and the other one is Kathiyawadi. My sister & I opted for Kathiyawadi, and the other family members had Gujarati Thali. The price of the thali with sweets for Kathiyawadi is Rs.475/- & for Gujarati thali with sweets is Rs.425/-. Except sabzis there weren't major differences between Kathiyawadi & Gujarati. The food was good, but nothing extraordinary or exceptional. I literally felt the place was overhyped for their food. The ambience was also not offering much, the walls were not properly painted. Except the food I was concerned about with their services. Most of the servers were disinterested in serving the food properly. We had to ask them a couple of times for the refill. I don't know how they have been surviving with this kind of service for years. Not at all recommended!

Overall a pretty average thali, in comparison to the many other options available in Ahmedabad. The service can also be more attentive!

I went here with my family. They have two thali options—one with dessert and one without. The food was very bland and lacked flavor; they really need to improve in this area. For dessert, they served halwa, which was very unique and tasted great. Each grain of the halwa was thick and coarse, making it enjoyable to eat. The aamras was also quite good. However, the main food had no taste at all, and we didn’t enjoy it at all.

Their food isn’t good, but their desserts are quite nice. The main dishes are very bland, but in desserts they serve moong dal halwa and aam ras. The moong dal halwa is very tasty and unique, and the aam ras is also good. They need to improve their food quality.

This is regarding my experience on Uttarayan when they added “Undhiyu” in their menu. While entire city was selling Undhiyu ₹400/kg they sold nearly ₹1200/kg and after that they were charging ₹10/bottle of 250gms so if you order 1kg you have to pay ₹40extra inspite of us carrying our own container they don’t consider that. This is Take away experience. We ordered both Surti & Chataka Undhiyu. After placing order we were made to wait more thn half an hr. Inspite of that the order handed over was not as per our paid bill, post that the staff went to change again came back after 10mins and again with the wrong order, again he went & handed over the order on third time. All bottles were labelled differently. And when we checked the product it was same in all pack, but we ordered 2different categories. And they too tasted bland as if boiled vegetables were packed in the name of Undhiyu and sold at almost ₹1200 /kg. This was biggest disappointment. We ordered due to the taste & quality they have been serving since years and their customer service was par excellence but this time dunno what happened, but we all were disappointed. Thanks
₹700 for two
