Long before Bollywood started thronging Mahendra Thaal for promotions, I have been a regular. I remember the sleep I had had after I had dined here first. Their Rasa wala bateta, daal and bhaat is a kind of inebriation I would want to have everyday. My latest visit on last Sunday re-affirmed my faith in Gujarati Thali. Every now & then I would crave for a Thali and will be satiated at home, courtesy my mom. This time around, the moment I craved our very own Gujju Thali, I set off at Mahendra Thaal. And it wasn't an impromptu decision, mind you. I had called all 5-6 good restaurants that serve Thali and made the decision based on which restaurant was serving the best farsan that day.. Any place that serves Dhokla & Handva is automatically cancelled as I have never liked either at Thali places. Upon inquiring at Mahendra Thaal, I was told they had Samosa, Khandvi and Mexican Tacos for Farsan. I was sold at Samosa & Khandvi only. To further my choice I inquired about the shaak. Undhiyu, Mix Kathol, Batata Rasa Wala and Paneer. I ignored the mention of Paneer like we ignore the constant reminder of air hostess asking us to sit down as soon as the plane lands :p I am not a mithai person per se but Khajoor, Anjeer Vedhmi did tickle my earbuds just as Basundi did. I was sure that either of Samosa, Khandvi, Undhiyu or Dal would be showstopper but to my utter surprise it was Vedhmi. This bite sized, no added-sugar, crispy puran-poli stuffed with dates and figs were a delight to taste buds. It was a no non-sense, simple dish. Absolutely loved it. I have seen this happen a lot of times that a Farsan is changed mid-way of the service because they have run out of it. Dearest Samosa that I was waiting for was replaced by cutlets. Now, Samosa was one of the major factor of my decision making, I did not stage a walk-out on it's absence. Khandvi and Cutlets were both good. I have no idea what was Mexican Tacos doing in a Gujarati Thali and I don't even want to understand it's rationale (if it has). Surati Undhiyu (Green) was nice. Rasa Wala Batata and Dal-Bhaat did wonders as always and I came out tummy-full and satisfied. An entire wall is dedicated to the pictures of our "beloved stars" but I think it is our cuisine that truly shines at Mahendra Thaal.

Really below average food. We cook much better at home. Food was not cooked properly, no sense of taste and quality. Dal was extremely sweet and cold, there was nothing added to basundi, farsan was tasteless, all sabzis were too mellow. Poor is were burned red. They had less waiters and timings of serves was not coordinated. It appeared the owner knew it all however he couldn’t do anything as good cook was possibly careless.

I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience left me genuinely frustrated and disappointed. From the moment I entered, the ambiance felt neglected — the place looked unkempt, with little attention to cleanliness or comfort. The service was equally underwhelming; the staff seemed disinterested, inattentive, and at times even indifferent to basic requests. Coming to the food — it was, unfortunately, the worst part of the experience. The dishes were served lukewarm, lacked any real flavor, and the texture was off-putting. It felt like no care or quality control had gone into preparation. Every bite was a letdown, and I genuinely struggled to finish even a small portion. To make matters worse, the presentation was sloppy and unappetizing, and the hygiene standards were clearly questionable. It’s hard to believe this place operates in the hospitality industry with such disregard for customer satisfaction. This was truly one of the most pathetic meals I’ve had in a while. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and sincerely hope the management takes serious steps to improve food quality, service, and overall standards.

⚠️ CHEAP SCAM ALERT ⚠️ my mother Visited this place with her friends. Their MRP was ₹370, they offered “store discount” and billed ₹350 (just 5%). On Zomato we had a straight 15% discount (which could go above 35% with card offers). When we asked them to remove the store discount and let us pay through Zomato, they flat out refused. Not just that — they forced us to pay cash. On questioning why they keep Zomato/online payment options active, the owner arrogantly said “nahi karenge” in the rudest tone. This is nothing but a trap to lure customers with fake discounts and then force them to pay cash at inflated rates. 👎 Highly unprofessional, misleading & customer-unfriendly. Foodies, stay away unless you want to be scammed.

Had no option thats why giving 1 star.. worst experience ever to have gujrati thali… first we had to wait for half hour as food was not ready even by 1pm then, Coming to food they don’t have puri or any other option then roti which is dry & bhakri which is burnt… even though summer they serve lapsi which comes from fridge… tuwar daal is daal or aaloo ki sabji is a big doubt… aam rass they serve only once… samosa only farsan is kachcha.. rice to kabhi aaye hi nahi… For roti 10times mangoge to 1 baar milegi…worst worst worst… save your day & money… don’t ever go to this place

Worst worst worst worst.... No words to describe the horrible experience I had... Worst service વાશી જમવાનું Tasteless.. Spicy food AC not working in the summer... I regret my decision... Better to stay hungry than having food at MAHENDRA THAL

Food was very sweet. Mahendra Thal has lost his old taste which they was providing 2-3 years ago. Not worthy at all for 370Rs per person. Better to go with Pakwan, Gordhan Thal, Grand Thakar, etc.
