There are a very few restaurants that have been good right from the start till the end, and I can happily say that Flavours of Nellai is one such place that falls in to this category without any hassle . The restaurant is located adjacent to the Astalakshmi temple, at Besant Nagar. A quaint little atmosphere with, a good rustic kinda seating in the same surrounding as the Shack. Their menu operates on complete typical south Indian vegetarian options that are healthy too. Pure ghee, sesame, groundnut and Cold pressed oils are used for cooking without any preservatives. Coming to what I tried, started with Onion pakoda and Assorted Bajji from their snacks section. Pakodas were perfectly crispy and light. Bajji was accompanied with kara chutney. Paati Urundai is one their signature dishes. It's supposed to be concoction of all the ingredients mixed together. Something more on the traditional side with lovely taste and presentation. Thattu podi idly can be customized as per your wish. They have various podi options and I chose the ground nut podi. With generous amount of podi, loved it. Uthappam Platter is a mini uthappam Platter that consists of 4 varieties of dosa - Onion, Podi, Carrot and Tomato. Filling and yummy. Podi Idly Platter, is yet again a platter consisting of 6 types of idlies with variants such as Ellu podi idly, Garlic podi idly, Paruppu podi Idly, Pepper podi Idly, Karuveppilai podi idly and the ground nut podi idly . My favourites were the pepper and Garlic. Each of it had generous amount podi and the flavours could be easily felt and differentiated. I was curious to know what Mulu Ulundu Dosai tasted like, hence ordered a portion. Made of black dhal, the consistency was something like that of a wheat dosa. Keerai Dosai was yet another healthy option that was available. Definitely a good option to switch to from the usual one. Special mention to their sambar which was slightly thick, just the way I like it to be. From beverages section, tried Hot chocolate, Chocolate Prodigy and Karupatti Coffee. Loved the hot chocolate, super delicious and nice.. Drinking karupatti coffee with a sore throat, I really felt good. It was super relieving. Chocolate Prodigy was more like a thickshake, with hint of banana and smores. Ended the scrumptious meal, on a sweeter note by sampling a portion of Iruttu Kadai Halwa, topped with generous amount of ghee, melts in the mouth instantly. In a nutshell, the food is very light and the portions are good. They do have other options exclusively only on like Sodhi kolambu with inji pachadi, Karupu Ulundu Sadam with thogayal, Millets, etc. It's on the quieter side of the city, away from the hustle and bustle and one can dine here peacefully. A meal for two can come up to ₹600.

Flavours of Nellai is newly opened restaurant inside Shack @ Elliots restaurant campus serving pure vegetarian South Indian food. I came to know about this place during my first visit to Shacks @ Elliot. Location and Parking - This place is easy to locate. Just before Astalakshmi temple in besant nagar. During my first visit was wondering whether I will get any nearby place to park my car, but was happy when I saw parking lot inside the campus. Ambiance and Service - As mentioned above, shack @ Elliots and this restaurant is in same place and good thing is they allow seating in any restaurant and order food from both restaurant. Shack seating is inside hut and perfect for hangout while Flavours of Nellai is usual one. We opted the latter one. Outside stand and eat fast food type option too available. Ambiance inside was good. Lighting is bright and seating is comfortable. Service was also good. They were courteous and attentive. Food ordered came quick without much waiting time. Food - Menu is crisp but good. During my first visit ordered Idly platter, Paati urundai, Vanilla Oreo shake and Tirunelveli halwa. Idly platter - Being a fan of various types of Podis, this dish is a must go for me. 5 idly each topped with Paruppu podi, idly podi, ellu podi, Peanut podi and karuvepillai podi. Everything is good especially peanut one which is best among all. Paati urundai - It was the unique one in menu which made me to go for it which I would say is good decision. It seems it is made out of mix of dosai, idly and accompaniments, but while having I felt like something new dish. Tastewise it was awesome. Must try over here. Vanilla Oreo shake - Blend is perfect. The sweet / oreo / chocolate level is spot on. Tirunelveli halwa - It is the signature sweet of Tirunelveli town, happy to get it in Chennai. Tasted good. Though quantity seems smaller bit difficult to finish due to its sweetness. During second visit, went with family and had dishes from both kitchen. Below are my take on those pertaining to this restaurant - Uthappam platter - It came with 4 varieties of mini uthappam viz. Onion uthappam, podi uthappam, tomato 🍅 uthappam and carrot 🥕 uthappam. Tastewise it was decent. Fried podi idly - Since peanut podi was the best I had in idly platter during my earlier visit decided to opt for it in fried podi idly. It is more of Idly upma which is also my favorite, enjoyed it. Keera dosai and Idly - Simple and Decent. Sambar and chutneys accompanying dishes are also good. Overall satisfying experience 👍 Pricing - It is slightly on higher side but worth considering location, quality / taste. Value for money 💰. Going to revisit for sure.

Found this restaurant on newly opened category on zomato and so headed there for dinner. I chose this place as it had south indian food on the menu. AMBIENCE: It was a small space with good lighting and seating arrangement. It is part of the SHAACK. The shaack is an out door restaurant while the flavours of nellai was a closed one with a/c. It has ample car parking area. A small play ground for kids. SERVICE: The service was too good. The staff was so polite and courteous enough to explain the menu. He also gave us suggestions on the chef's speciality which turned out to be good. MENU: I went thinking I had to eat only south indian food but to my surprise I was given the menu of the shaack which had continental. Just loved it. So , it had pasta, noodles, fried rice, etc on the continental menu . The south indian menu has variety of idly and dosa. FOOD: The food we ordered from the flavours of nellai were:  kaal dosa  - chutney and sambar felt home made  mulu ullundu idly - So soft and is a must try veg uthapam with karuvaipillai podi uthapam platter - all variety of podi  From the continental menu: paneer aglio oglio - Had very good flavour to it mozzarella sticks - so chessyyyyy baby corn manchurian schezwan noodle  drinks: filter coffee nanari sharbhat - was perfect  lemon honey tea Everything about this place is perfect. A dinner that was filling and not over loading with oil. A MUST TRY PLACE.

An amazing dine out experience this afternoon. This place is located very close to Besant Nagar Ashtalakshmi Temple. Specialty of Flavours of Nellai: 1. Fully air conditioned 2. Neatly done interiors 3. South Indian cuisine 4.Located in serene locality 5.Very close to Besant Nagar/Elliot’s Beach 6.Ample parking space 7.Reasonably priced 8.Friendly Staff The restaurant use refined oil & they make their own batter. They do not use preservatives or additives. It is as good as home made food. What did I order? Nellai Special Meals Podi Idli Platter Paati Urundai I highly recommend all of them not because I had them but because of their taste & quality. They were incredible. Best part is their Chief Chef is away. Food was prepared by their Executive Chef. Nellai Special meals was truly tasty & fulfilling. Though the items were served in small quantity, each one of them stood apart. Podi Idli Platter is awesome. It had 5 different varieties (5 different podis). It is served with two different chutneys and amazing Sambar. Paati Urundai is again their specialty. Try that as well. Do visit the place & you will keep visiting them :)

Nice South Indian home style food after long time in Bessy. The food is super tasty and yummy especially their sambar n Kara chutney. I also happened to try their paati urundai n idly platter which were very good as well. They do not add any preservatives n use chekku (cold pressed) oil which shows in the flavor of the idly. Another big plus is the abundant car parking availability which is quite difficult to find in restaurants nowadays, n also we can get a mix of continental food from their nearby sister restaurant shack @ Elliot's in the same compound

Found this place on a random search on Zomato and I'm glad I did. This place tries to put a spin gourmet on traditional south indian food which turned out to be really good. Ordered a podi idli platter which melted in our mouths. There was another dish we tried which was like a combination of idli and dosa combined? Apparently... Definitely coming back for more... Bring your parents here, they'll definitely enjoy this place if they like traditional south Indian food.
