We visited on a Saturday night to this lovely place which serves fresh food just out of the sea. Ambience : 5/5 - very limited seating like (15-18) so BOOK IN ADVANCE!!. Nicely done interiors and cutlery. Best place to have some quality private dining experience. Staff were also very welcoming and catered to all our doubts about the dishes. Food: 5/5- we had a variety of dishes and none of them disappointed. The seafood was fresh and quality of the meat and other ingredients were top notch, easily better than a lot of big branded cafes and hotels in Chennai. Butter garlic lobster: 500grams costed 1900 It was our first time trying lobster (so don't know if it's low cost or expensive) and butter garlic sauce was toooo good along with the lobster meat. Could have brought it a little warmer. Other than that it was a perfect dish Mackeral Rechado: 3 pieces of mackeral. Tasted fresh and good. I am a very picky eater when it comes to fish since I don't like the smell of fish, but this one has freshness written all over it. Prawn popcorn: Double breaded and fried medium sized prawns with a dip. Have never seen this size of prawn in a restaurant, it's either small or tiger prawns. But here it was consistently medium sized. Barracuda Tacos: 4 double breaded and fried fillets of fish (fillet could have been bigger) and a generous amount of fresh veggies made this tacos a lip smacking one. 600 seems expensive but faaaar better and worth than what processed item we get at T*** bell. Prawn Laksa curry with udon noodles: A fresh noodles and some accompaniments with 6 pieces of medium sized seared prawns which just melts in your mouth. Along with a laksa curry which is their version of Thai red curry, it was creamy and paired well with the noodles. Recommendations: breading was a bit thick in prawn popcorn as well as in barracuda tacos, could have made it thinner so that we could taste more of prawn or fish. Laksa curry could have been a little thick and creamier and spicier. ( Just a personal preference)

We had an amazing family lunch and had a blast! 😄 We loved the variety of options to try. The service was top-notch, and the staff was super helpful in guiding our dish choices. We kicked things off with Tawa Fish Fry using Vanjaram fish, and then came the soft shell crabs—everyone was raving about them; they were definitely the highlight! 🦀✨ For chicken, we enjoyed kung pao chicken, which was really tasty. For the main course, we went for some rice along with Goan Fish Curry, Kerala Veg Curry, and paratha. Yum! 🍽️😋

A small place with excellent food experience. We were very hungry when we halted at this place. Right on the highway, it offers delicious food. Being from Delhi, we were amazed to experience such good and mouthwatering Butter Chicken here. It was brilliant. The fish curry was really good too. The paranthas here were amazing as well, ended up ordering extra and having as it is too. The staff and the chef were very sweet and lovely. The place was small but the whole experience was wholesome. Highly recommend.

Each bite feels like a beach vacation in your mouth. One second you’re enjoying the crispiness, the next you’re hit with the zing of fresh lime, and before you know it, you’re contemplating ordering another round. If you ever wanted to feel like a cool pirate feasting after a long day at sea, this is your moment. Ahhh, you ready for it? Because I know I am. 5 out of 5 salty sea stars!

Kai is one of our favourite places to dine in Chennai. The ambience, which resembles a private home dining experience - gives us the comfort of being home away from home! Whether it’s the fish, prawns or crab even - everything is fresh and the food is to die for! It’s not only for the non vegetarians, but Kai has a lot of options for the veggies too! Do visit :)

Amazing find in ECR, great food and service, must try their brocolli quinoa cakes, mindblown!! only suggestion would be to include more vegetarian options in the menu!

It's a small establishment right on the ECR and is churning out amazing seafood dishes. We had butter garlic lobster, a Thai rendition of steamed grey mullet, and idiyappam with Goan fish curry. Apart from the Goan fish Curry, which lacked some punch or maybe it's me because I lived in Goa for two years and used to some of the authentic Goan curries, the other dishes were great. must visit if you are passing through the ECR

The food was shockingly bad, given all the positive reviews on Zomato. We had the sea bass ceviche, ghee roast prawn, hot chilli soft shell crab, blue pea flower lemonade and the sol Kadhi. I cannot, in good conscience, rate any of the food items over 2-2.5. Utterly mediocre and lacking in finesse, the food was even overly seasoned! When you expect to taste the sea, you don’t want someone to dump one handful of salt on your meal!!!! The prawns were over cooked and very sour, absolutely no balance at all. The food there makes one feel like a clown for making the trip to ECR. Honestly, even the seafood at chains like Palmshore in Chennai are treated with a bit more care. The charges for the quality of food provided, even for cheaper fish like anchovies, were just audacious and frankly, atrocious.

Visited Kai by the Sea this afternoon and had a very disappointing experience. Despite seeing two empty tables, we were denied seating because we didn’t have a prior reservation. I’ve been visiting this place for the past two years—even back when it had just four tables—and never faced such an issue. What was most upsetting wasn’t just the refusal, but the way the staff communicated. It felt dismissive and disrespectful, as if we were there for a free meal. No alternatives or suggestions were offered—just a flat “no table, please leave.” This kind of attitude is unacceptable, especially from a place I’ve supported for so long. Sadly, I won’t be returning, and I’ll be advising my friends and family to avoid it as well. Extremely disappointing
