Vishesham was exactly the kind of restaurant I was looking for in Chennai—a standalone fine-dining place serving authentic South Indian cuisine in an elegant setting, without having to go to a luxury hotel. The reservation process was seamless, the restaurant was pleasantly busy, and the service was exceptional. We were a group of around 11 people, and the staff looked after us throughout the evening with warmth and great attention to detail. The menu celebrates regional South Indian cuisine, with dishes from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, while introducing several thoughtful and creative interpretations. We started with a variety of seafood, chicken, and mutton starters, followed by excellent soups. The spicy seafood soup and the rich mutton leg soup were both outstanding. The beverages were equally memorable. Along with innovative mocktails, they serve regional specialties like sarbat, a wonderful Akka Tea, and a traditional Kashayam that tasted just like the homemade version found in many Tamil households. The main course was the highlight of the evening. The egg appam was simply extraordinary. The Kerala-style Ulli Theeyal was deeply flavorful, and every fish, chicken, and mutton curry we tried was excellent. While a few curries packed a spicy kick, most had beautifully balanced flavors. One of my favorites was the chicken and parotta cooked in coconut milk, and the tender coconut chicken curry served inside an actual tender coconut was both innovative and delicious. The flaky parottas, soft idiyappams, and the neer dosa—every bit as good as what I’ve had in Mangalore—completed a fantastic meal. The desserts ended the evening on a high. The Kavuni Arisi halwa made from black rice and the Badam Halwa were both exceptional, and the assortment of house-made ice creams was equally enjoyable. To make the experience even better, there was a live violin performance featuring Ilaiyaraaja classics, creating a wonderful atmosphere without being intrusive. Overall, Vishesham delivers a rare combination of authenticity, creativity, excellent service, and ambience. If you’re looking for refined South Indian cuisine that stays true to its roots while presenting it in a contemporary way, this is one of the best dining experiences Chennai has to offer. Highly recommended.

One heck of a luxury fine dining experience. The ambiance was stunning, with live music right at the center setting the mood perfectly. The service felt truly premium, they even had us wash our hands at the table with rose petal water 😲 We went all out with a mix of seafood and mutton, the Peshawari lamb kebab was juicy and flavourful, aatu kaal paya had that rich, slow-cooked depth, and the pomfret fry was perfectly crisp and fresh. The Malabar prawn curry with neer dosa and steamed rice with karuvepilai meen curry brought bold, coastal flavours and made for a perfect combo. The Thalassery biriyani was light, aromatic, and beautifully balanced, while the kari dosa, muttai appam, and Malabar parotta were soft, fresh, and paired really well with the Telangana kodi kura and creamy paneer butter masala, a slightly random combo, but it worked so well 😅 Desserts were simple, the elaneer payasam was light and refreshing, and the gajar ka halwa was warm and comforting. The bill did hit five figures, but for the experience, food, and overall vibe totally worth it!

I visited Visesham for my birthday lunch with my husband, and it turned out to be an exceptional experience. We wanted to try something different from the usual star hotel buffets, and this place truly exceeded expectations. The fine dining setup, along with the thoughtfully curated course meals, made every dish feel premium and worth it. I had the vegetarian virundhu, while my husband chose the non-veg option, both were equally delicious with perfectly balanced portions. The ambience, soft music, and attentive service added to the overall experience. Anand ensured timely service at our table, and Arasu personally interacted with guests, sharing insights about the food and its health benefits, which was both unique and informative. Overall, it was a memorable and delightful experience. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend it to friends and family.

The food was truly delicious. Absolutely no complaints! Meat and seafood was cooked to just the right amount — moist and succulent! Uppu kari went down like butter!! One of the best meal we had for lunch. We wouldn’t have had such a memorable feast in any of the star hotels in Chennai! I would highly recommend this restaurant for South Indian cuisine. Do give Visesham a try on one of your special occasion❤️. Mr. Anand and Mr. Chinna were great hosts! Mr. Anand helped us order the right food, and Mr.Chinna was very gracious. My husband and I felt like we were looked after while being offered privacy to have great conversation.

I had the pleasure of dining here for lunch, and it was absolutely sublime. The ambience is exquisite — understated luxury with impeccable attention to detail, even in the afternoon light. The South Indian flavours are elevated to an art form: refined, nuanced, and deeply soulful. Service was gracious throughout, and I must extend special commendation to Mr. Vijay, whose hospitality was both effortless and impeccable. The vibe is pure sophistication.

The service was great but i wouldn’t recommend having the mutton biriyani. I loved the tandoori malai brocolli and ghee rice. The mutton biriyani was disappointing for the hefty price you pay for it Also had the deconstructed jigerthanda it tasted too toffee-ish too sweet. That not even two person could finish the dessert but the milk base was okay
