Hi friends, back in Jaipur after a span of two years,so decided to start off with a place which is currently not popular with the youngsters, but which has a past, and which has had its share of fame and popularity. I am talking of Simla hotel,situated on Hawa Mahal road. A friend who used to frequent this joint in his college days,told me that this hotel was the best for non-veg(and its bar). Its current rating on zomato is 2.5, but,as you know,all foodies go where they shouldn't, against popular advice, and then deliver their verdict! Since its very close to my work place, I decided to visit this once legendary joint,at around seven in the evening. There are so many small restaurants that have come up like mushrooms on the pavement,that I had to look for the entrance. A neat flight of stairs led upstairs where there was a reception area,adjoining the small rooms. I asked if the restaurant was open,and the fellow gave me a strange look and nodded. The eating area was small but clean,with furniture that reminds you of yesteryears,specially the glass-topped tables that were in fashion once. I was the only person around at that time(I've heard their bar is better attended) The service was quick and unpretentious, the mannerisms friendly. I feel less harassed in such low profile places where questions such as "mineral or normal water ?" are not asked. Anyways,I ordered for their special mutton and missi roti. The rotis were perfect(right combination of soft and crunchy),and the mutton was tender and flavorful. The masaala was a bit intense, but you don't come to such places for delicate flavors. Prices are very economical. I feel this place has potential to regain its popularity. All it needs is an imaginative manager who could compete with all the new pretentious joints with their slick marketing techniques.
