Karthiyayini, Kochi A simple, homely place that instantly makes you feel like you’re eating at someone’s home in Kerala. Seating is casual and communal — if you’re at a large table, be ready to share. The restaurant is open only from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, yet it’s packed every single day, and for good reason. The menu focuses purely on seafood with a few vegetable and dal options — no chicken, mutton, or any other meat, and no breads or rotis. Everything is served with Kerala’s own boiled brown rice, generously replenished throughout your meal. We tried the Kalanji Tawa Fry – absolutely lipsmacking; the Naruneendi was refreshing, the Prawns Fry – freshly made and outstanding; the Thirutha Curry had the perfect balance of spice and flavour; and the Squid Kanthari was soft, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The Avial, Sambhar, and Rasam were simply yummmm! Every single dish stood out in its own way. Service was fast, warm, and genuinely caring — something rare to find these days. Verdict: A must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Kerala seafood and homestyle cooking. We all just loved it! ❤️🐟

Karthiyayini is a quintessential seafood restaurant where you get no compromise on the quality. I went with locals (my friends from Kochi) who took me there as small outlets where you get the same food for 1/3rd price were closed due to LPG issue. But I loved the food at Karthiyayini despite it being overpriced. The squid preparation (Kandhari) was very unique to my Bengali tastebuds. We ordered the Prawn Masala(?) which was spicy but not that hot. I enjoyed the sides they serve in the thali. Very Sadya vibe. If you are in Kochi, paying a visit is a must.

The food is extremely good, reasonably priced and the service is spot on. Albeit a little crowded during lunchtime, the way the staff manages is really appreciable. We tried meals along with two favourites - Prawns Fry and Squid Fry. Both were well cooked and delicious. Highly recommended. I’ll be planning to visit again soon for sure.

Visited on 22/06/2024 for Lunch. Got table within 5 mins of waiting. I had meals and Kalanji Roast. Meal itself was bit overpriced consider the number of sides provided. Being allergic to shell fish , I said No to prawn chammandi. But I still managed to get an allergic reaction. Which means either the fish gravy served with rice or Kalanji fish roast had traces of prawns or something shellfish. Restaurant needs to be more careful and accountable for the food being served as this is potentially life threatening especially for children. Only reason for giving 3 stars and not less is because of the friendly staff.

After hearing a lot of positive reviews, we decided to visit this place. We thought it will be very crowded and we will have to fight to find a seat but the seating was well organised and we were able to find a seat quiet fast. Coming to the food, it was ok. Nothing wow. We ordered the regular meals with neymeen fry and prawns roast. Neymeen didn't taste fresh and prawns masala was nothing extraordinary. Maybe we expected a lot, and it didn't live upto the hype. We definitely have had better fish meals from smaller establishments. A big appreciation for the chechis who are always smiling and serving food.

I recently visited Hotel Kartiyani in Kochi based on a recommendation from a foodie YouTuber. However, my experience was extremely disappointing. I ordered the lunch meal, and to say that I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. The food quality was far below my expectations. The taste was bland, and the presentation was unimpressive. I couldn't understand why people were raving about this place. It felt like nothing more than a promotional attraction with no real substance. I regretfully spent my hard-earned money on this so-called 'lunch meal' that left me unsatisfied and disappointed. I strongly advise others to reconsider before visiting this place for a meal. There are much better options available in Kochi, such as 'Arabikkadal' near Amrita School in Edappally, where you can get a delicious meal at a fraction of the cost and with significantly better quality. My experience at Hotel Kartiyani was a letdown, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone seeking a satisfying meal in Kochi.

the single-most overrated and fake restaurant in Kochi. the fish (tirutha) was absolutely tasteless, no salt, no spice, nothing. they should be paying us to eat from here. the meals had a ladies finger dish that was made by a chef who doesn't know the first thing about masalas and oils. the only part of the Rs 750 bill that was remotely edible was the buttermilk and cabbage. please have some dignity and close it down instead of overcharging and ripping off people for dog food

Overhyped and overpriced for below average food. Meals had 2 veg items. Fish items are way overpriced, no salt and spice, tasteless food. Waiting time of min 15 mins expected, may get shared seating. Very disappointing, will never visit again !
