The food and ambience was amazing. We tried the Veg Meal, Curd rice, Parotta and Dosas. Totally recommended!

The food was generally good, but they were out of the banana leaf dinners and also Ada Prathanam. The payasam they served instead was too sweet.

Well the meals were over which we wanted to have and that was sad! We did a la cart and the items were okay! In spite of pre booking seats got a corner table which kind of made us immovable but smiling service made us overlook it!

The cafe has great reviews so we planned for a dinner there. The staff were professional and supportive but the cafe is infested with some small fly like insects. They kept getting into food and dying in it. The staff replaced two dishes for us but it kept happening so we had to leave before we could finish the dinner. We could not gauge the food properly but the chicken was under cooked

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Poor Service, Inconsistent Food, and Lack of Basic Hospitality I had high hopes when I stepped into Kerala Cafe Fort Kochi, expecting authentic Kerala flavors and a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, what I encountered was far from that – a series of service and quality issues that made the visit deeply unsatisfactory. 1. No Water Served – Basic Etiquette Missing: From the moment I sat down, it was clear that basic hospitality wasn’t a priority here. I wasn’t even offered a glass of water – something that’s not only standard but essential, especially in the humid climate of Kochi. Not offering water shows a complete disregard for guest comfort. 2. Unexplained 40 minsin Wait for a Simple Order: I ordered just 2 porottas and a prawn curry – a fairly simple and common dish. Yet, I was made to wait for over40minutes, with no prior warning from the staff and no note on the menu about such a delay. If there’s a long prep time, it’s the restaurant’s responsibility to communicate that upfront. 3. Dish Did Not Match the Description or Regional Recipe: The menu described the prawn curry as spicy and made with shallots, tamarind (kodampuli), and red chillies – ingredients that are central to Kerala-style seafood preparations. However, the dish served looked and tasted completely different. The gravy was yellow, heavily turmeric-based, lacking the sourness of tamarind or the heat of red chillies. The flavor was flat and nothing close to the dish described or expected. As shown in the photo I took, there was no visible trace of shallots, kodampuli, or chillies. 4. Staff Response Was Dismissive: When I questioned the missing ingredients and flavor, the waiter simply said, “This is how we serve it. If you want, we can add tamarind.” That response was both careless and confusing – if the dish is supposed to have tamarind and red chilli as part of the recipe, why is it being served without them by default? It felt like corners were being cut in the kitchen, and the staff had no real answer. 5. Hot and Uncomfortable Ambience: The atmosphere inside was uncomfortably hot, and there didn’t seem to be proper ventilation or cooling. Sitting in that heat while waiting endlessly for food only added to the frustration. 6. Understaffed and Poorly Managed: It was evident that the restaurant was understaffed, with just one or two people trying to handle the entire floor. As a result, service was disorganized, slow, and inattentive. ⸻ Final Thoughts: Overall, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in Fort Kochi. The food did not match the menu or the expectations of authentic Kerala cuisine, the service was poor, and even basic hospitality like serving water was missing. With better staff training, honest communication, and consistency in food preparation, Kerala Cafe Fort Kochi could be much better – but as of now, I cannot recommend it.

This was our first meal in Kochi and the most disappointing one.....leaving a bad impression about hospitality in gods own country!!!! They just had meals which was ok to us, but they didnt say ICE COLD meals. How can you serve cold food to customers? on asking the manager started citing maintaineance issues. On top of that the waiter is distributing menu cards to everyone. When there are only 2 items available, why the hell give menus. Please dont go to this horrible place.

Was served parata perhaps made earlier in the day , burnt while reheated for serving. There was nothing Kerala about it. Mix veg curry seemed to be dunked in a standard butter masala gravy. There is nothing authentic about this place. Even the Music being played was some rustic hindi belt music. A big avoid.

Had a disappointing experience here. The Kerala parotta didn’t taste fresh, and the mushroom Kerala curry was below average. Having had much better Kerala food before, this didn’t quite meet expectations. Hope the quality improves.

For the basic such as appam and veg stew i waited for over 45 mins, and when the stew finally arrives it comes with a hair in it.
