Had the pleasure of having lunch here. The menu is so vast and nostalgic of the Old Babu culture of Bengalis. We had ordered two Chaitali thalis and one Shorshe Lebur Elo Jhelo Bhetki. The portion size of the thali was more than enough for a person, but as it was non shareable had to order two. The Shorshe Elo Jhelo Bhetki was lip smacking and cooked perfectly. The items in the thali too were tasty and priced at only ₹499. The service and ambience of the restaurant was also top notch. Would love to visit again.

Had a wonderful family lunch, The presentation itself felt special — traditional brass plates, banana leaves, and a table full of authentic dishes that immediately reminded me of classic Bengali hospitality. The spread was huge: fragrant rice, dal, crispy fries, fish preparations, mutton curry, chutney, papad, sweets, and more. Everything arrived well-portioned and beautifully plated. The mutton dishes were rich and flavourful, cooked slowly with that typical Bengali depth of spices. The fish items were fresh and perfectly fried, and the dal with rice felt simple but comforting, balancing the heavier curries. The meal ended perfectly with traditional Bengali sweets, which were soft and satisfying. What stood out most was the variety and authenticity. It felt like eating a festive Bengali lunch rather than a regular restaurant meal. The service was prompt and the overall dining experience was relaxed and enjoyable for a family outing. If you want to experience a proper Bengali style meal is definitely worth visiting.

Food was cold! This is my first time there! Expecting more delicious food as per their ratings. But it was very basic at taste, nothing special or to be remembered.

Most of the dishes we have ordered for were above average only but not with the WOW factor in taste. we would have expected much better taste from BABU culture. A few of the dishes were also below average as well.

They have soaked in the zamindari bong vibes pretty well but their thalis with a gamut of options need to spill more authenic tastes than solely 😓 sweating stick-tongue-out chilli 🌶

Feedback for Babu Culture, Sonarpur (Lunch on Maha Nabami): 1. They offer three types of thali – Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian, and Hilsa Thali. When I asked if my mother and I could share a thali, I was first told that the Non-Veg Thali cannot be shared, and if we wanted to share, we must order the Hilsa Thali (₹1099). The surprising part was, when we mentioned we don’t eat Hilsa, they suddenly said the Non-Veg Thali can be shared after all. Clearly, there was an attempt to push the Hilsa Thali by giving misleading information. 2. Ambience is nothing extraordinary. The staff behavior was polite, but the place is extremely small. Even the table given for two people was so tiny that we were quite uncomfortable. 3. In most good restaurants, I’ve noticed that staff pour water from a bottle or jug into guests’ glasses immediately after seating. Here, there was no such service. 4. Food quantity was just about fine, but the taste was nothing remarkable – in fact, I would rate it below average. Overall rating: 5/10.
