THE MOST FORGETTABLE DINING EXPERIENCE! Was visiting Kolkata from Mumbai after a long time and had just 1 thing in my mind - Hit up Blue Poppy-Thakali and order the pork thali. In fact, it was going to be my first time in Blue Poppy-Thakali and was so eager to try their food. But it ended up being a heap of disappointing events, one after the other, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. Visited the the place on 1st May with my partner and called for momos to begin the proceedings. As soon as our waiter brought the momos, along came a nasty cockroach! The cockroach was running havoc on our table as we tried protecting the momos. In the process, spilled a glass of water too. All this while, the waiters were no where to be seen. Both of us kept calling the waiter and the lady at the reception, but no one paid any heed to us. All they did was nod their heads and then disappear into the kitchen. Finally, a waiter came with our second round of momos and we told him of the cockroach. He seemed least bothered as he cleared the glasses and put the first and second plates of momos (which we didn't touch) away. We requested for a change of table and guess what they did - just nodded. No apology, no communication, nothing whatsoever as we stood in one corner of the restaurant with all our belongings, waiting for the next steps or at least a table. After 10-15 minutes, we decided to walk off, only to be chased by our server who wanted money for the drinks we ordered. This was a truly terrible experience. Doma Wang's food might be a class apart but when you can't maintain basic hygiene in a restuarant or give minimum training to your staff, you might as well stick to cooking on instagram and eat that food yourself.

we had a horrid experience at @bluepoppythakali , a place I really loved and went back to after years, now that I live in Mumbai. Took my partner who had never been there, raving about the food. But we never got around to eating their momos. As soon as we got the food we saw a big cockroach on the table. We immediately called for help but were completely ignored, even as the lady at the reception kept staring at us but didn't move an inch to check or help. We tried to catch it ourselves, spilling water in the process. Almost 5 minutes later someone came, took the bottle (with which we killed the cockroach) and our food away and didn't say a word, while we requested him to change our table. We waited for 10-15 minutes (it was late, we were hungry and we wanted to give the place the benefit of doubt that maybe this was a rare accident), while not a single person came to check on us or communicate anything about next steps (an apology seemed too far fetched at this point). Finally we decided to walk out and we told the lady at the reception about the same. She just stared. As we were leaving one of the servers ran after us asking us to pay for a drink of which we had barely taken 2 sips. At this point we were at the end of our patience and finally had to tell them off about their disgusting hygiene standards and abhorrent service. The owner turns up in reels and is super popular making this place one of those go-to places. But if basic hygiene and even more important basic human respect can't be maintained then it doesn't matter if your momos are Michelin star level. I will tell people to actively avoid this place. There are far better joints in Kolkata.

The food itself was decent — I’ll give them that. But the service? Absolutely appalling. The pan-fried momos were extremely spicy and when I politely asked for some butter or even just a spoon of milk to help with the heat, I was flatly refused. Not once, but twice. A single spoon of milk. REFUSED. I was sitting there in genuine discomfort and the staff couldn’t care less. The kitchen is doing its job. It’s a shame the front of house has absolutely no idea what hospitality means. Rude, unhelpful, and completely indifferent to customer comfort. Good food deserves good service. This place has one of the two. Will not be returning until they train their staff on what basic human decency looks like.”

Since when did this restaurant become so miserly? I ordered 10 pcs of momo along with fried rice and mushrooms, and received barely 5 ml of chutney. On asking, I was told (by Sayan) that extra chutney costs ₹40. Is this how dine-in customers are treated as well? 5 ml chutney for an order like this is simply not acceptable—it's an essential, not an add-on. Disappointing to see such cost-cutting at the expense of customer experience. This is how loyalty and goodwill are lost.

How is this authentic Nepali/tibetan food? Sel roti was more like a doughnut and what is wrong with the aloodum and also since when do thalis come without the food platter? Me being from the hills myself, this is a crime representing our food in such a bad taste, manner everything. Please do better you represent a big region
