I’m tempted to call it the lovechild of Moglai Parota and Kobiraji! Like a sudden stroke on seven strings, the first bite of a rhetorically monikered ‘Kobiraji Moglai’ – stocky and scrumptious parota cloaked in an elegant lacework of beaten eggs, yielded a decadence I often seek in the recesses of old cafés. Café Delux decidedly had more on offer than we could contain over a listless evening. So, I just got why a table there is so tough to score, smiled and chomped on. --------------------------------------- It made me feel like a stranger in my own lair. How could I not know it for so long? Fish-fries of JP Snacks at Hazra [or, the Ashley Grahams of Fish-fries] struck me with hope – like emblems of excess in an age lost in pursuit of tasteless leanness. Fillets found their meatiest expression in JP's crumbed wonders.

A quaint little place just beside Basusree cinema hall. I had a bit of trouble locating it as google map was not accurate. The place was totally empty and me being the only customer. There was not much of any decoration. The place was quite old and gave an impression of old Kolkata. I had ordered a Mughlai Kabiraji as it was the most talked about in most of the reviews. They took about 15mins to get it served. I must say it is one the best mughlai paratha I have had. It was soft and really tasty. The alu tarkari served with it was also well made. Only con I had faced was the power cut and they do not have generator/inverter of any sort. I was sweating profusely and so was not able to enjoy the meal as desired. The management should definitely look into the matter.

Sorry for not being able to give a very positive feedback on this place. It seems the place is totally out of sync with the modern times and remains stuck somewhere between the fifties and sixties. The restaurant is all about a few rickety tables and chairs clumsily arranged in a high ceilinged room with two extremely slow moving fans. The furniture is dirty and smelly and the fans give off hot air to raise the ambient temperature. The only wash basin lacks a faucet and the waiter pours water on hand from a dirty jug. Coming to food, their signature dish mughlai paratha ,both plain and kabiraji type,is very good in taste but short of being extraordinary. The waiting hour for food is long and the service is extremely slow. The price of all the items include taxes and is a bit on the higher side in comparison with other establishments. The food is served in clean cutlery and the restaurant staff are very polite. An ideal place for those who crave for the nostalgic past of the City of Joy and are willing to put up with all kinds of discomfort for that.
