This is one of the oldest cafes around the Gariahat-Hindustan Park region. This is located at Hindustan Park area, can be accessed from the opposite lane of Gariahat Basanti Devi College. The nearest metro is Kalighat, just pick an auto towards Gariahat more and get off at Hindustan Park or Basanti Devi College. The ambience of this cafe is truly great. The aesthetics and the decoration is just perfect. They have a cosy seating at the ground floor and also have a bigger space for seating at the top floor having the name of 'Charcoal by Wise Owl'. But both the different cafes or segments have different menus. I went to the top floor as the ground floor was full. The food was very good in terms of taste. We ordered Gondhoraj Fish Fingers(Bhetki) and Chicken Angara Tikka. Both turned out really well and the items contained fresh fish & chicken. From the mocktails we went for Kala Khatta Lemonade & Kacha Aam Pora Mojito, which also were good.

Went here last week for my birthday dinner. It has a great and cosy ambience with some additional outside seatings for those who prefer not to be in an air-conditioned environment. The food and service was excellent. As my wife has a strict dietary restriction, being unable to consume chilies or pepper, finding suitable dining options in Kolkata has been a recurring nightmare. Most restaurants either disregard such special requests or make empty promises, only for us to be disappointed when the food arrives with traces of mirchi. Charcoal (and Wise Owl as well) stood out as one of the very few establishments in Kolkata where the chef personally ensured our dining experience would be enjoyable. The chilli free paneer tikka and murgh malai tikka were outstanding, perfectly satisfying our taste buds. So were all the other items we tried.

The ambiance is pretty. The food is really good. The Galouti kebab is much recommended(it came with these little parathas which I particularly loved). So is the Lal Maas. Butter Garlic Naan, Dal Makhni, Chicken Biryani were all upto the mark taste wise and quantity wise. Definitely going back again. Service can be improved though.

Visited them yesterday to have some Peshawari cuisine right here in my city. Ambience is praiseworthy- the classy decor and comfortable sitting make it more instagrammable. But the con for me is the waiting time, we waited for almost 40 minutes to be served. Nevertheless, the food reimbursed the irritation that we got at that point. Had- • Peshawari Burrah • Butter Naan • Gosht Roghan Gulmarg. Food is amazing, flavoursome. The Burrah is a li'l difficult to be managed, but the mutton is the showstopper, the naan is soft too.

Went over for lunch few weeks back. Food was great. Very affordable and good portion. Need to work on the service. The servers are not attentive and served us butter naan instead of garlic naan. When asked the naan to be changed they did not saying all the other food will get cold which was very unprofessional. We eneded up ordering a garlic naan and never received an apology. We went for lunch in the afternoon and there was a card on the table saying there is a discounts during lunch which the manager was very reluctant to give . The resturant itself was not maintained well either. Loved the food but needs serious improvement in management.

4th time dining here but this time they ruined our valentine’s dinner. We ordered fish tikka which was raw. So we asked them to get fully cooked one. However while waiting for our entree they served us our mains - sizzlers. The sizzler’s were good. But after we were done with our mains they got our starters. The serving staff were inefficient, completely unaware of personal space and hygiene. They took half an hour to process our bill as well. Overall left with a horrible experience. The tables and chairs also need fixing. Unkempt!

We went there on 8th August 2023. Since AC was not working we took a dish of Chicken Kebab. It was good and price Rs360 is reasonable .But we took two glasses of sweet lime soda. They charged IRe 190 per glass. Imagine one bottle of soda costs Re 20 only. Lemon and sugar syrup was added. Price became ten times of cost of one bottle soda.Is it not too much and overcharging?

We ordered Chello Kebab x2, Galaouti Kebab x1, Chicken Ala keiv x1, and Special Kolkata Steak. Our order was placed at 8:10 pm, and all items were served within an hour except for the steak, which took over 1.5 hours to arrive. The reason provided for the delay was the influx of "SWIGGY ORDERS." Our bill was generated at 9:55 pm.
