Before the Conjuring, there was Nun. Similarly, before the influx of fine dining Chinese restaurants in the city, there was Chinoiserie. It was a cult classic which introduced Calcuttans to 'authentic' Chinese food, and has lived upto its name till date. Chinoiserie emerges as the winner among all its 5-star hotel Chinese counterparts in the city, after a close competition with Vintage Asia. Perfectly balanced flavours, lovely cosy interior, and the warmth of the staff: all these help Chinoiserie steal the show. The classic staples are always good here, be it their Fried Rice, or Noodles. I personally love their Singapore Rice Noodles. Some classics to go with these staples would be: •Sichuan Chilli Mountain Chicken (unparalled appetiser). •Butter Chilli Garlic Prawns (best Prawn appetiser in town). •Kung Pao Chicken. •Ask them to make a classic Hot Garlic Prawn, if you love prawns in a robust and spicy garlic sauce. This is not on the menu, but they shall make it for you! Goes perfectly well with their purposely subtle Rices! :D

Chinoiserie is a standout spot for dim sums, which truly live up to the hype. They did not disappoint with their flavorful and well-crafted dim sums. While the main course was somewhat underwhelming, the overall dining experience was still quite positive. Everything we ordered was well-prepared and tasty, with the mushrooms being a particular highlight. They are expertly made and worth trying. If you’re a fan of dim sums, Chinoiserie is definitely worth a visit for its exceptional offerings and delicious mushrooms.

This place undoubtedly serves the best Chinese in town. From starters to dessert every items served were top notch. The butter garlic prawn in apetizer and chocolate nut spring roll are to die for. Unlike some other five star properties, Chinoiserie does justice to their name.

I went with my family for my birthday celebration on 25th May. The good part: 1. The table was pre-booked with a request for a birthday cake which they obliged. The cake was complimentary and delicious. 2. Having a kind with us, we requested for a sofa as part of the table seating. It was not readily available - being a weekend evening, it was crowded - but the staff arranged for it as soon as one got free. Luckily we did not have to wait too long. The bad part: 1. Food serving time: need to budget 30 min after placing every course. It can become a bit annoying when you are ordering 3 course, you want to pace out your meal and you have to wait about an hour. 2. Food taste: below average. We ordered chicken hot n sour soup, Chili fish (some variety of it), crispy chicken (some variety of it) as appetizer. Followed it up with Singapore rice noodle - chicken and Chili chicken (some variety of it). Every item was much much below expectation. You would get a better experience at Vintage Asia, Pan Asia, Mainland China, or even Chowman or any Park Street restaurant. It was a big downer for such a huge occasion for my family. 2. Ambience : Pretty average. For the price and standards Taj sets, the restaurant was below par. The decor was non existent and seating arrangements were really cramped up. It was underwhelming. The ugly part: Car parking : if you have a driver with you, parking is your responsibility. This is not I expected from a Taj establishment. This was a mood breaker from the very onset. Overall a 2.5/5 experience. Only saving grace was the Taj common place decor and the staff were really accommodating. But would not be going back anytime soon here.

Definitely not the kind of experience we were expecting. The starters were great but the mains were pretty average, especially the chilli garlic noodles and the chicken dish. The service was not attentive, prompt or warm. Had gone to celebrate our anniversary and they did give a complimentary cake but the gesture was so indifferent that we could have easily done without it. Definitely not going back.
