A Memorable Birthday Dinner at Dum Pukht, ITC Sonar We recently celebrated our daughter’s birthday at Dum Pukht, ITC Sonar, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we entered, the ambience set the tone for a refined and intimate evening. The rich décor, gentle lighting, and soothing traditional music instantly made us feel like we were in for something special. The evening was made even more memorable by the impeccable service, especially from Mr. Debashis, who took wonderful care of us throughout. From suggesting the right dishes for our group to ensuring a seamless birthday celebration, his warmth and professionalism truly enhanced the experience. We began our meal with a couple of appetizers—Murgh Chandi Tikka and a Fish Kebab. The Murgh Chandi Tikka was beautifully tender, subtly spiced, and coated in a delicate silver leaf that gave it a regal finish. It melted in the mouth, leaving a rich smoky flavour with each bite. The fish kebab, equally impressive, was moist, flaky, and expertly marinated with gentle spices that didn’t overpower the freshness of the fish. For the mains, we indulged in the legendary Dum Pukht Mutton Biryani and the Murgh Handi Korma. The biryani was aromatic and rich, with each grain of rice perfectly cooked and infused with the essence of saffron, ghee, and the slow-cooked mutton. The meat was succulent and fell off the bone with ease, a testament to the slow dum-style cooking. The Murgh Handi Korma was a creamy, fragrant curry with tender chicken pieces bathed in a velvety sauce that balanced richness with just the right hint of spices. Paired with soft tandoori rotis and a side of raita, this made for a wonderfully satisfying main course. As it was a birthday, the team surprised us with a beautifully presented cake from the hotel, which was brought out at just the right moment. It was a warm and thoughtful gesture coordinated seamlessly by Mr. Debashis. The staff gathered with smiles, and the candlelit moment made our daughter feel truly celebrated. It wasn’t just service—it was heartfelt hospitality. In terms of pricing, Dum Pukht is undoubtedly premium, but the quality of food, ambiance, and service made it well worth it for a special occasion. Every element—from the careful pacing of courses to the elegant presentation and personalised attention—felt intentional and refined. Overall, it was a perfect place for a family celebration. Dum Pukht combines culinary excellence with old-world charm, and with hosts like Mr. Debashis, it becomes more than just dinner—it becomes a memory.

Anniversary dinner at Dum Pukht last night with my husband, and it was outstanding. On our table manager’s recommendation, we tried two amazing cocktails—Port & Anchor, a whiskey sour variant, and Hot Chilli Pepper—both excellent. The Khush Chicken completely blew us away, even more than the classic Kakori Kebab. The Mutton Biryani, Mutton Nihari, and Khameri Roti were equally memorable; the biryani was lighter than Kolkata style, with melt-in-the-mouth mutton. No space for dessert—an easy 5/5 experience. Wish I could take better photos as I like to take food photos, but the light is pretty dim and also they serve it directly. But it doesn’t change our experience one bit. The staff is incredibly kind and keep checking on you.

Authentic Awadhi food in Kolkata. It is costly but worth it. We had melt in your mouth Galawati and Kakori Kabab, Mutton Nihari with Khameri Roti and Mutton Biryani. The service was excellent, especially Mr. Debasis was very courteous.

Dum Pukht is a highly overpriced restaurant for substandard food preparations. The food portions are small, the food is bland, there is no proper preparation available for pure vegetarian people and above all, it is highly overpriced for food that does not deserve so much of price. My aunt from London threw a party at this restaurant at the instance of my cousin (her daughter) on the occasion of my grandfather's 100th birthday. I simply fail to understand what do they find in the preparations of this restaurant- they said that they have eaten here before too. I simply don't understand what exactly they found in this restaurant to repeat dining.
