Eau Chew, almost a century old Chinese eatery, tucked inside a dilapidated building, near Chandni Chowk Metro. Be it the homely seating arrangement, large aquarium with neon fishes common to many Chinese restaurants, or whitewashed walls with minimalist overhead lanterns, there is a certain simplicity and honesty to the place that we love. We tried the legendary Chimney Soup, a hearty broth filled with bok choy, fish, chicken and prawn. We ordered the medium one for the three of us, and lost count how many servings was needed to finally finish it off. (A bit on the pricier side but the potion size and the unique flavour makes it worth having) We also had Dry Roast Chilli Pork, (they got the fat to meat ratio right, and was cooked to perfection :) and packed some Josephine Noodles for home (tastes like a warm hug after a long day, if you know what I mean) We had a lovely afternoon, thank you for having us :))

First of all you get that heritage vibes here!It is indeed the main reason we went there!It serves authentic chinese food.We ordered chicken clear soup.Soup was tasty.Josephine noodles and garlic chicken.Noodle was 10 on 10.Garlic chicken could be better in taste.

It’s a 2-minute walk from Chadni Chowk Metro Station Gate No. 6. Located at the 1st floor of a almost dilapidated building, the restaurant can be a bit hard to find. We ordered: 1. Chimney Soup 2. Chicken black beans 3. Josephine Mixed Noodles 1. Chimney Soup — This legendary soup can easily serve 4 people. Enough quantity of egg, fish, prawn and chicken in a thick broth. Lived up to the billing. 2. Chicken black beans — portion size is smaller compared to other items. Taste-wise quite good as a starter or a dry side dish. 3. Josephine Mixed Noodles — many people highly rated this in their reviews. But it was bit too oily for my liking. much.

First of all, the food was pretty good. The chimney soup was very tasty and filling. Along with the soup, we ordered chicken wontons, dry chilli chicken and dry roasted pork. The wontons were amazing, so were the other two starters. Please be informed these are not tossed in sauce, as you’d find in most Chinese eateries in the city. The ambience can be improved, it is very basic. The ACs are quite old. We felt the pricing was a bit steep according to the ambience.

Eau Chew, an age old Chinese food joint is located in Ganesh Chandra Avenue near Chandni Metro Station. It is one of the very old Chinese Restaurants in Central Kolkata which has been recently renovated from inside with moderately priced items The entrance have to be located carefully to find the staircase and go to the 1st floor at the restaurant. The long air conditioned interior with good hygiene is quite cosy to dine in. The washrooms were clean too which was actually surprising. Coming to the menu, they do serve authentic Chinese cuisine but honestly according to me, they are basically not the exact authentic Chinese which you will get at Tiretta Bazar or Tangra We ordered a couple of dishes out of which Pork items were main attraction from the menu. To our satisfaction, it was good but not top notch as par. Quantity wise also felt a bit less as according to the price point though we took few items as half portion. The pork was decent though but couldn't be wrong to say as it was on the marginally good side Overall our experience was average and decent but expected something of a better in terms of the hype that I've listened to from the reviewers !!

Can understand the nostalgia involved with a family run restaurant with a touch of old school heritage charm but that shouldn’t be the only USP. Also, when the prices are at the premium side, the ingredients used should be fresh. The Josephine noodles were bland and the prawns were stale. The starters were way too salty to our liking. The only thing we liked were the chimney soup and roasted chilli pork. Not worth the hype at all !

Today on 2.9.2023 we went to Eau Chew Restaurant. We were unlucky enough to be hit by torrential rains just outside Chandni Chowk Metro station. After getting drenched , we had a bit trouble finding the restaurant in the rains and to top it of, we didnot carry an umbrella today. So wet in the rain on a lazy Saturday afternoon, I felt we will have a good time gorging on delicious Chinese items. The restaurant has made quite a name for 2 of its items. The Chimney soup and Josephine Noodles. I am not a big fan of soup anywhere, but I would have given it a try over here but the astronomical price of Rs 950 for chimney soup large and Rs 800 for chimney soup medium put us off. The astronomical success of Isro's Chandrayan 3 is evident. We ordered Josephine Noodles(Rs 600) and Shezuan Chicken dry (Rs 280). The Noodles did come in a large pot(2 plates of Rs 300 noodles in other similar Chinese restaurants would have been more)and the shezuan chicken came on a tea plate having 6 small chicken pieces. Now we have compromised with both high prices and small portion, I was hoping we will have great taste in the dishes. I was let down here as well. Josephine Noodles ,with its fancy name is just gravy noodles.The veggies in the noodles were undercooked and raw. The taste was good and the noodles had onions, capsicum, babycorn, cauliflower, mushrooms, chicken, egg, 3 prawns, brocolli, carrots and beans. Except chicken, carrots, onions and capsicum, the other items felt undercooked. The schezuan chicken had good taste in the sauce, but the small chicken pieces and their bit dry nature wasnt very good. This is the first Chinese run restaurant I felt wasnt up to mark and quite below it. The other restaurants of Tung Nam , Sei Vui in the area are masters of the game. Any restaurant of China Town would also beat it.

Heard a lot about this place from social media but all my expectations went out in vain . Pricing is high. Food completely blunt & tasteless . Visited other authentic Chinese restaurants serving much better food. Will never recommend this restaurant.

The food is average. Nothing great tbh. The service is too slow with just one aged waiter managing all the customers. The prices are quite high as compared to the food, service and hygiene. Hygiene is the biggest issue as to why one should avoid this place. Most of the utensils were really dirty and smelt bad. I didn't understand as to why they can't even wash the utensils well between serving two different customers. Quite a bad experience.

A third class restaurant. We went there on last week for authentic Chinese food but very much disappointed. Chicken fried rice and Chicken noodles both were peculiar in taste only the dry chilli chicken was okay (not good). I request all to not got there if you expect to taste some authentic chinese cuisine....
