I might be audacious to write a review for this legendary restaurant which has already been reviewed by the bigshots as well as shown on various media. We planned for this restaurant as soon as we planned for Kolkata. It was near to the place we stayed. This is one of the legendary restaurants which has kept the “bangaliyana” culture for decades ( and I mean 50+years or even more). It’s a kind of a pice hotel, which means you’ll be served rice, dal, aloo bhaja as much as you want & then there would be extra payable addons. The staff is extremely friendly & helpful. We even met the owner kakima there & had a good talk. She was very interested when she heard we came from Nagpur. We chatted almost all the way during our lunch. The food is served over banana leaf!!!! What we ordered (suggested by the waiter): Steamed rice, aloo bhaja, lemon (standard) and of course the water came in a maatir bhaad (earthen pot). Macher matha diye lau (bottle gourd with fish head): Never have I ever eaten this before. It was delicious!!!! Low on spices, High on taste. Chholar daal : Normal. Nothing very fancy about it. Chitol maacher kaliya: oooooo. This was pure heaven. Bhetki fry: I never had it before and was reluctant to order it (but since i was told that ilish is not available we ought to try this. So…..) but when i took the first bite, i went quite (quietly went in zen mode). We were planning for kosha mangsho…. But after all these (and being tired after a long travel), I had the sense to not order anything else. A must visit for anyone who want to enjoy food & only food. This is definitely a place I’ll visit again whenever I’m in Kolkata.

Hotel Sidheshwari Ashram - A place which is very close to my heart in the city of joy. Every visit was something special. One can absolutely relish the finest of authentic bong food here without a pinch in their pocket. Every dish served here is as healthy and homely as it could be. I can’t wait to celebrate the joy of having a scrumptious meal here on my next visit. For all those reviewers who mentioned about the ‘confused billing’ mechanism here should know what a pice hotel really is - you’re billed for each item you consume, not just eat (slivered onions, lemon and of coarse the banana leaf).

Amazing, absolutely amazing and not to be missed when in Kolkata. We had their niramish meal. Also had the sorshe ilish, pabda and chingri with spring onion dishes and omg! Everything was so prompt, so fresh and just so beautifully prepared, deserves all the praise. Our server today was also so so good, he was so efficient and quick! Can't fault any of it.

Had rice, moong daal, jhuri alu Bhaja, machher matha diye badhakopir ghonto, pabda macher jhol, shorshe diye bhetki mach. Great food. Very light and not too rich like any other Bengali restaurant. One of the only pice hotels to have a very small AC section. The size of the fish is something to die for. Service was also great.

We ordered: Fine rice Narkel diye dal Aloo bhaja Machher matha diye shaak Sorshe bhapa diye Rui machh Mutton kosha Aamer chatni Liked the presentation with Kolapata. Loved puishak diye machh, mutton kosha. Rui machh with Sorshe bhapa and Narkel diye dal, Aamer chutney was decent enough. Loved their hospitality from a woman looked like one of the owners to the waiter serving our food on the table. Though cleanliness could have been way better provided they are charging enough for the food.

Had a lot of expectations. Was highly disappointed. Had their mutton curry and rice. Not worth a second visit.

Most overrated place might be due to too much of food blogging and pseudonostalgia... quality of food was so so and taste was nothing exceptional any simple resturant of this nature would serve such food at much a lower cost.. its good if you take dal rice, rui fish(kabiraji) and alu bhaja, chicken jhol was good but 130 bucks for 2 pieces in such environment was too much also same applies to most other dishes...venturing into costly fish item may not be good idea...

we have seen the rating & then we went to this place. but very pathetic food they served. after having food we are feeling vomiting & taken 3 medicine for digested all foods. muri ghonto is 1 out of 5 posto is 1 out of 5 dal is tasteless fish, mutton nothing are like Bengali taste, it's fully non Bengali taste inspired by local area so don't go with rating, it's totally waste of money
