It's always been kind of an enigma for me as to why not even a single sweetmeat shop in South Kolkata can compete with the North Kolkata ones. Even after having all the capital and resources. I guess it boils down to only one thing. 'Skill'. One can replicate anything but the skill an experienced 'Karigor' brings to the table is inimitable. Their dexterity have been passed on to them by their ancestors. No one can compete with the moxie procured through centuries and passed down through generations. Putiram is one such place where they have been producing delectable sweet items for many decades. Have been in love with their Radhaballavis and 'white' Mishti doi since college. They serve cholar dal (split Bengal gram) alongside the Radhaballavis. You might get a taste of their flavorful Alur torkari if you're in luck as it's not available all the time. Apart from their Mishti Doi and Radhaballavis, the sweetmeats they produce are hands down among the best in Kolkata. Do not miss them for the world. Hope someday they open a branch in South Kolkata as well. These greenhorns in South need to have a run for their money.

Putiram 'naam hi kaafi hai.' It has a distinguished identity in College Street of Kolkata. I love their radhaballabhi and kachori the most. Price in comparison to the similar shops of the locality is a bit but its quality is also better than them.

A 150-year-old shop with a rich history, Putiram is famous for its dalpuri, so I had to try it. It was served with cholar daal. The taste of the cholar daal was quite normal, as expected, but it had a sweet flavor that stood out and tasted really good. The dalpuri was not oily at all, which is a big plus for those who are health-conscious. I also tried their patisapta, which had a very thin outer layer and was stuffed with a delicious mixture of jaggery and coconut—absolutely delightful. Overall, it is a must-try place for snacks if you are visiting the College Street area!

In between, I tried Putiram, another famous sweet shop in Kolkata and the famous Radhaballabhi there..😊 The price of 4PS Radhaballabhi has fallen to around ₹32/- It tasted great..😄 One day in between, I saw dhokla and ate it again..The total cost of two pieces of dhokla is twenty rupees..However, it was pretty good to eat..😄 So don't delay and enjoy the taste of Radhavallabhi and dhokla too here...😁 , hope you like it...😊

With due respect to the story & history of the shop, Kochuri & Torkari were pretty ordinary in taste. Singhara & Rajbhog were good though. I'm yet to eat Radhavolobhi & Dal to find out if everything is just a hype or not.
