I’m feeling pretty courageous to write a review of a restaurant which was probably started when my grandfather was a kid. This legendary restaurant is more than a 100 years old where many legendary personalities probably ate at one point of time. After hearing about it over various media articles, this was another place I planned to visit. Tucked in a small lane this restaurant was very hard to find for a new person in Kolkata. Thanks to Mr. Rabjan Sarkar, the proprietor of Ananda publishers shop in college street, that we found this place ( this kaku even called me to know whether I found this place or not… lots if respect) Anyways, the restaurant has a very limited seating, a very old pice restaurant feeling (probably at that time, this was a luxury!!). After a day of shopping around college street we were pretty hungry. Here’s what was suggested to us (my better half was more oriented towards a light vegetarian meal): Steamed rice, aloo bhaja. Macher matha diye mug daal :::: only one word …. Wah! Aloo potol er tarkari: less on oil, plain spices…. I thought she selected this correctly to feel light. Maacher dimer bora ( a fried delicacy of fish eggs)::: could have been better. My thought is the smaller the “bora” is the better, as it absorbs the quintessential spices while marinating & frying. Bhetki maacher kalia: by this time i was more oriented towards bhetki rather than ilish, as its quite rare in Nagpur. A great place to visit to ponder upon history & ti have your heart’s fill with some authentic Bangali food.

The history & legacy of this restaurant is just incredible. The serving of the food on a banana leaf and water in a clay pot is simply majestic and vintage. Pure class. Pabda curry & Muttton curry were both delicious. Quality of fish & meat was good. *** Mutton curry was just excellent.*** Service is good too. Total damage incurred for the aforementioned with 2 generous servings of rice was INR 485. It's worth the food & overall experience.

We had Rice, Dal, Alu Bhaja, Macher Matha diye pui sakh, Katla Fish Curry....All the items were extremely delicious and mouth watering...Ambience is too good.... The best thing is they serve the food in "kolapata" and the water in "Matir Bhar" The taste of the Fish was so good.. Other items were also very much delicious... Price is too affordable & pocket friendly... Overall a great experience... Will visit again.!!

We got here around 2:30pm on a Friday and there was a small line. Luckily we got a table within 10mins, got seated and quickly ordered. Their niramish jackfruit curry was delicious. The chingri and tangra were also very very well made. Loved the maacher maatha diye chorcori as well, Every single thing was freshly prepared and tasted truly wonderful.

A must-visit to experience the pice hotel culture - so intrinsic to the DNA of this city. My order is pretty much the same - bhaat, dal, aloo bhaaja, chhyachra, tyangra/chitol/recommended machh of the day or mangsho, finished off with an aam-er chutney.
