Machali lives up to its hype of being one of the most popular restaurants in Udupi. All the fish fries were excellent. We also tried the crab ghee roast which was super tasty. It is a little higher on the masala side but topping off the meal with buttermilk will help. You need to wait a bit for a table on weekends since it is so popular but its usually 10-15 min wait time so that's ok. Enjoyed the food a lot here.

One of the best fish restaurant at Udupi. The restaurant has adequate car parking. we had to wait 35 mins after reaching the restaurant, but it was totally worth the wait time. we tried most of the fishes in the menu. very fresh fish. excellent preparation.

People who think machali is only for prawns ghee roast and squid ghee roast must try this ‘Bangude Phanna Upakri’ which is a specialty GSB Konkani cuisine in Coastal Karnataka . The gravy is kinda god sent . Never miss this

Can’t get better sea food Udupi / Mangalore style. It’s amazing value for money and the sea food is fresh!! The best sea food by far at this price point. This is a must-do place in Udupi

It’s a paradise for seafood lovers, I have two at home and they both loved the delicious food here. Getting a table over weekend is next to impossible, you have to wait in a long queue, if only 2 of you are there, there is a high chance that you will get a table quicker. We had both veg thali and fish thali, with Suemayi fish fry and Ghee Roast prawns. The sides in thalis were very homey in preparation, non spicy, rasam was very tasteful with boiled rice. Service gets delayed if you need more rice/sides. Ambiance is very rustic and old village type, I liked that too.

The food is very good no doubt. We enjoyed the variety and value for money. But we had a horrible waiter - who hovered over us, gave us grief about not choosing his recommended dishes, and kept passing snide comments about the same. The entire meal felt very stressful and we could not wait to get out of there. I realise it is not fine dining but a small effort at hospitality would have gone a long way in making us wanting to come back. I would hesitate to go back or recommend this restaurant to people unless they improve their customer service.
