When you talk about Matunga.. you mean a food heaven and it Aiyyappa is a old and prominent name. I have been a regular here since child hood , and at that time it was located outside Ram Mandir. Their new place now is bigger , better and has a seating arrangement too. I have been a old fan of their Masala Idli. They used to prepare this delicacy only if they had sufficient time to prepare it. If they were burdened with many orders, masala idli was not made. The food taste here is authentic and we locals stroll here every now and then. Items tried : -Medu Wada -Masala Idli -Medu wada and idli -Rava Masala Dosa * -Mysore Masala Dosa -Dahi Wada -Upma -Paneer Sada Dosa -Medu wada Dip -Onion Utappa Loving it !For people who place hygienic and a very essential factor, this place is not for you. The chatni is cold and the sambar is always piping hot ! *FINAL VERDICT* FOOD 4.5/5 AMBIENCE 3/5 VFM 4/5

The good taste of South India. We often try their food. Normal idli is my go to dish. Old-style sitting and amazing food is their kinda signature. I tried their Ayyappan special dosa which was heavy and filled with cheese. We also tried idli podi (give proper instructions cause sometimes they cut the idli and mix with podi), filter coffee is a must try, and we had Medu Vada which were okay. Mysore dosa I tried in my previous visit which was also okay. Ps. - parking problem in the lane and a petroling car moves to capture the photo of your car, if it's parked in no parking area. Be aware.

The South Indian food here is just too good. The taste & the portions are great. Definitely recommending the Garden Jini Dosa here. The Pudina Soda & Ayyappan Idli too is nice!

Ayappam Idli It's a famous food joint at Matunga serving South Indian snacks. They serve variety of Dosas, Mendu Vada, Dal Vada, Upma etc. Prices are pocket friendly.

I don't know why this place is so famous for, Frist of all I visited this Place around 10:00 pm night and I ordered masala dosa it took them 20 mins to make it has there was hardly any one, so yes service ( self-service) was very slowly, and taste was so average that it was not worth waiting at all.

I’ve been a big fan of this place for a long time, which is why it’s disappointing to see the recent decline in standards. Lately, it feels like they’ve started compromising on the very things that made them popular. The staff has been reduced, and the shift to self-service has only made the experience worse. On top of that, the waiting time has become unreasonably long. I ordered the Benne Dosa, which is supposed to be a specialty item, but the wait time was excessive. What was more frustrating was that customers who arrived after me were served earlier. When my order finally arrived, it felt like a formality—the butter was served on the side instead of being properly applied on the dosa, which defeats the purpose. The Rava Dosa was also overcooked and burnt. It’s surprising to see this drop in quality, especially when they’ve recently opened a premium outlet just 300 meters away. It feels like the focus has shifted, and in the process, they’re losing what they originally built their reputation on. If this continues, I’m concerned the overall experience will only get worse over time.

One of the worst service. Post waiting for 30 mins outside. Had ordered Mysore Masala Dosa in butter along with a Rava Masala. What I received was what Ayyapan used to give me for 20 bucks outside Vishrani Bhavan when he initially started his business. The order came after 35 mins. Dosa 35 mins is insane.. Mysore masala cut in 4 piece like a stall charged 180 is truly concerning. The food was made in butter the waiter added butter over it later. Rava masala was not cooked too. The rava was left incomplete as it wasn’t consumable. I am a south Indian the place is at a South Indian populated location. They should maintain the quality and taste. I think Ayyapan has grown so much to ignore his quality and presentation now. Will never dine here.

Hygiene is a big challenge at this place. It was my best goto place for authentic Tamil food, but over the years I have only seen it becoming bad. To avoid eating at this place due to the now hygiene condition, I ordered it on Swiggy, but the quantity of Sambhar and chutney was so less that I had to letgo of half of my food. Overall poor experience, even food quality is coming down. Better options available in Matunga than go to this place or order from.
