This cafe in Matunga is iconic in Bombay's food history and has shaped the way south Indian cuisines are cooked in Mumbai. This place covers a major chunk of the criteria needed for a satisfying meal; fast service and most of all, food that practically melts in your mouth. The wonderful dishes that I had the pleasure of trying were the Benne dosa, which contains butter made in house, Ragi dosa, Rassam wada and Bisibhili Bhath, perfectly paired with authentic South Indian filter coffee. In particular, the rassam wada was nothing short of breathtaking, with it's smooth and soft texture and with the blend of flavourful spices. However, the ambience could have been improved, but it is so due to the excessively long waiting lines. All in all, this meal was a 10/10. Happy eating!!! KitchenKaleidoscope

Great food.. butter rasam wada was heavenly, super soft podi idli, neer dosa and dosa was great. fast service.. had to wait for 30mins to get inside but it was worth it

1. not worth the 20 minute wait 2. tupa dosa was good 5/5 3. Rasam idli was ok 4/5 pineapple sheera average 2/5 4Rava Masala Dosa ok 3/5. 5. Coffee excellent 5/5. would hesitate to visit again

the benne masala dosa was okay, but ghee podi idli was absolutely awful. so many better new places than this to try in mumbai honestly

It's famous for old authentic food. Taste is like other south indian restaurants with some extra items. Owners/ waiters have rude behaviour as they are obliging you by offering food. No free place to sit, no privacy, they will accommodate some other people to eat with you on the same table. Food price n quality are not the issue but they are becoming more arrogant as customer flow is good.

It offers best foods & beverages but the Staffs are very very arrogant & unprofessional and I feel they don't have the caliber of speaking or interacting with their clients based upon the prices they charge although their food quality is excellent but Staffs are just the opposite especially the cashier after my second visit here and he's the most arrogant person I've come across any of the the food stores which doesn't suit a hospitable industry like this with his hostile attitude like nature

why are people crazy about this place? what's wrong with Mumbai people? have they not eaten anything half decent in their life before? absolutely horrible food. horrible. The food is bland tasteless and not worth the hype. MTR pre mix dosa batter gives better taste than whatever they serve here. mumbai people really need to improve their standards man. to make things worse, we waited 50 mins before tasting this god awful thing they call south indian food.

Food quality has deteriorated. The pineapple sheera smelled only of essence and tasted horrible. So much heeng in the buttermilk that it was almost impossible to drink. The nimbu Pani was pre-made. The dosa idle were decent but not worth sitting in congested tables with no AC. The waiter asked multiple times to leave though we sat there only for 45 min as our family is of slow eaters. Not sure why there is still line outside !

We are regulars at Cafe Madras Food quality has worsened. Last night Had ordered idli sambar, podi idli n onion utthapam. The chutney supplied was stale & sour causing every one at home stomach upset . Never again at Cafe Madras. Will not recommend any one
