Fondly known by many as Mondy’s. I Absolutely loved the vibe of this place, located on the very popular Colaba causeway, this place speaks nostalgia. The food they serve are all classic dishes which have probably been on their menu since ages. We were a group of 6 and we ordered plenty of dishes so we could try more; 1. Chicken Mayo Roll: Very standard tasting mayo filled hotdog (2/5) 2. Chillis Cheese Toast: Cheesy goodness over a bed of crispy toast (5/5) 3. Plate of Ham Bacon & Sausages: order only if you are a fan 4. Fish finger & Chips: Very standard tasting (2/5) 5. Garlic Mushrooms: Deep fried Mushrooms served with a delicious garlic dip. The mushrooms by themselves tasted bland, however the garlic sauce it came with was amazing. (4/5) only for the dip 6. American Mix Grill: A grilled steak covered with a sunny side egg and served with a side of sausages, bacon and grilled veggies 7. Carbonara: An absolute No over here, it was just a cheesy preparation which lacked any flavour whatsoever, even the pasta was patchy and sticky, probably overcooked (1/5) 8. Pollo Stroganoff: Neither tasted nor looked anywhere close to Stroganoff (1/5) 9. Pineapple cheese cherry sticks: (5/5) In summary, this place is worth a visit for their very fun lively vibe. Their ambience is colourful, they play excellent old time songs and it is a great place to visit with your gang just to have a couple of beers beers and starters. I doubt they have updated their recipes since many decades now hence all the recipes are absolutely classic. Would definitely return, just for the Vibe and this time around, I will know better what to order.

English breakfast is a must try for those seeking a classic, filling, and flavorsome start to the day, paired with vintage Mumbai charm and a lively social vibe. If a memorable and hearty breakfast in a legendary setting is what you seek, this spot consistently delivers. Special mention about the JukeBox takes all the attention A little overpriced but once try is must just to get vibe of it.

I visited Cafe Mondegar for the very first time during my trip to the Gateway of India. Frankly, its popularity is what pushed me to try it, but after visiting, I couldn’t really understand what all the fuss is about. It’s a very average café with a room packed so tightly that even mosquitoes might struggle to find space to breathe. The tables are placed extremely close to each other, making it uncomfortable to move around. That said, considering the heavy crowd and waiting time to get a table, the service was commendable — our order arrived within 10 minutes. For food, we ordered a Corn & Cheese Pizza, Cheesy Garlic Bread, and fresh Wheat Beer. The pizza was loaded with cheese, but it wasn’t properly melted — more stiff than the satisfying cheesy pull you’d expect. The garlic bread, however, was soft, crunchy, and definitely better than the pizza. The wheat beer was fresh and enjoyable. Overall, my experience remained average, mainly due to the long wait, overcrowded seating, and the constant pressure to vacate the table quickly for the next guests and also the prices for such an experience are sky high. For me, this was surely a first and last visit.

The place is very crowded with limited space, and over the years it seems to have become quite commercial — trying to squeeze value out of every seat. The food was decent — we tried the chicken lollipop, club sandwich, onion rings, a shake, and cold coffee. Not exceptional, but passable. What really put me off was the attitude of a spectacled waiter who took orders — noticeably unfriendly, yet clearly hinting for a tip by mentioning that bill does not have service charge , even suggesting I could pay via cash or UPI and waiting at the back until I tip. However it would be unfair if I do not mention that another guy who served food was pleasant. I’ve had a good experience here in the past, but it feels like Café Mondegar has become a victim of its own fame — slipping into complacency and arrogance. I think it’s time to stop patronising places that have forgotten what made them special in the first place. (Tried Britannia and co earlier today for lunch and what an experience it was. Places like them make Mumbai still loveable)

Worst ever experience, I had ordered food and when I complained about the staleness of a particular dish, the staff was least bothered to even see the problem. Nirmal and Sunil both didn't care and not even willing to even see the staleness. Worst part they don't even have a feedback form available in restaurant for anyone to leave a feedback. My last visit to Cafe Mondegar, you have lost your charm

The space is cramped, people are literally adjusting and sitting next to each other..even while walking you have to look all around so that you dont push someone by mistake while eating. Food rates are skyroketting and quality is '0'. Today I went with my family, we ordered chicken kheema and found a big rope inside it..!!! WTH..!! The price compared to quality and taste is not worth it at all.

The place screams “Unhygienic conditions” It is dingy and stinks. And above everything else, we were greeted by 2 cockroaches right over our heads. It was one of the most horrible experiences and i would never ever suggest this place to anyone.

I recently visited Café Mondegar and had a very disappointing experience. The food was below expectations, and I had to leave it halfway. Definitely not worth a visit. OVERPRICED. OVERHYPED
