A Culinary Voyage Through South India at Dakshin, ITC Grand Central My dining experience at Dakshin in ITC Grand Central, Mumbai, was nothing short of extraordinary. Renowned for its authentic South Indian fare, the restaurant offers curated vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis, each highlighting signature dishes from the southern states of India. In my thali, I embarked on a gastronomic journey through South India: Tomato Pappu from Andhra Pradesh, a tangy and comforting lentil dish. Padupe from Mangalore, Karnataka, a flavorful, lightly spiced preparation. Uruli Roast from Tamil Nadu, a deliciously spiced vegetarian delicacy. Jamin Mangachoru from Kerala, a fragrant mango-infused rice preparation. Venchana Mamsam from Andhra Pradesh, a richly spiced mutton dish. Accompaniments like Pachadi, a cooling yogurt-based dish, and the aromatic Koli Biryani, completed the non-vegetarian thali. The thali beautifully showcased the diversity of South Indian cuisine, offering unique flavors and textures with every bite. Vegetarian options are equally elaborate, featuring dishes like spicy gassi and tangy sambhar, ensuring an indulgent experience for all diners. The ambiance at Dakshin added to the experience, with its traditional South Indian decor, jasmine-scented air, and warm hospitality. The meal ended with a touch of sweetness, courtesy of their Elaneer Payasam, a tender coconut dessert, and aromatic filter coffee. Whether you prefer vegetarian or non-vegetarian, Dakshin’s thalis provide an unparalleled culinary journey that celebrates the vibrant heritage of South India. A must-visit for anyone who cherishes authentic flavors!

We had a wonderful experience at Dakshin, ITC. We visited to celebrate my father's birthday, and the entire team made the occasion truly special. The food was exceptional, the ambiance was warm and elegant, and the service was outstanding throughout our visit. What touched us most was the staff's thoughtful gesture of celebrating our recent wedding as well by arranging a cake, even though we had come primarily for my father's birthday. Since we have visited this restaurant multiple times, the team recognized us and made us feel valued and welcomed. A big thank you to the entire team for their hospitality and attention to detail. Their personalized service is one of the reasons we keep coming back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food, excellent service, and memorable celebrations.

Went into dakshin with nostalgic memories of family dinners at the original dakshin when they were in itc grand maratha. Back then it was one of the few restaurants offering authentic South Indian flavours. Flash forward to 2025, dakshin remains the same but the world seems to have moved forward. The menu today is nothing exceptional but still retains authentic dishes from across south india. We tried their masala coated fried prawns, mutton in andhra spices and shredded crab meat with appams and malabar parathas. Unfortunately nothing shined through to recommend strongly enough. The ambience is old school comfortable, most of the patrons too were on the older side. The service levels were very high. Can be considered for a lazy dinner with family or clients seeking an authentic South Indian experience in Mumbai.

The food at Dakshin is outstanding. The service is equally pathetic. I ordered a sampoornam veg meal but I had to keep reminding them about it so they could give me the things that were supposed to be included, such as filter coffee, the additional starters etc. I did not get the rasam and steamed rice at all nor was I given a choice between bisi bele bhaath and vegetable rice like it’s meant to be. I was too full to ask for the steamed rice to eat with the delicious sambar but they didn’t offer it on their own either. We had to keep waiting for everything, right from water in the beginning to each round of food. The only thing we got without asking was the bill since they were in a hurry to close the system.

We went to Dakshin for the Onam Sadya. However, the cuisine (or their interpretation of it) on the day was just not up to the mark. When you grow up in a South Indian household, you grow up with a firm idea of how food ought to be. Especially for a Sadya. The Sadya is a variety of flavors, but the one which Dakshin had was strange. It's as if every item was toned down to such a degree that it had lost all its flavor and punch. That's not ideal. I mean, it's great if you're serving an Englishman for whom spice and flavor is an alien concept, but not for us. For the price (a steep 3k per sadya) it was a bit of a disappointment. I'd personally stay away from this place unless something changes.
