I went to Malad one morning for some work which went up to 3:30pm and that costed me a lot of time and kept me quite hungry. As the minutes passed, my stomach's growling kept on growing from a scale of mild to extremely intense and I knew i was in dire need of some food to satiate my stomach's thirst for food. I then remembered I saw a restaurant near the station but was uncertain of the dining hours. Though skeptical about it, I thought of checking it out. I reached the spot and looked up to read the board which said 'Jyoti Restaurant and bar'. I asked the staff if the restaurant was open and it indeed was! How happy my stomach was listening to this! The restaurant has an AC and non AC section with a simple ambience and dim amber coloured lighting. So I and my parents ({uid:30815048}) sat in the AC section and were soon greeted by a wait staff who brought the menu card along. The first thing we asked was for the availability of seafood items. Most of the fish items were not available except for prawns and bangda so we decided to go in for prawns. It was a hectic day and the only thing that came to my mind was some nice soothing hard drink. Since the restaurant has a bar we went in for a quarter of old monk. The drinks here are also served on a quarter basis and the liquor in general is quite light on the pocket. Service was prompt and the waitstaff attending my table was very kind too. On asking for some complimentary peanuts to go along with the drinks, he did so without a thought. That was a good gesture that I liked. After a few sips our starters began to arrive with the first being the seafood items followed by chicken. Prawn koliwada This dish was a favorite of my mom and she loved it. The prawns had a coating which was very crispy and tasty. I could taste a hint of ginger garlic flavour. I must say, just as my mom, I too loved this dish. Chicken crispy This chinese style preparation of chicken had a lot of garlic, which I liked, and had a good quantity of chicken too. Chicken 65 Chicken prepared in a chinese style and finished off with a tadka is what this appetizer is. The curry leaves and mustard seeds had a nice impact on the dish leaving it more flavourful. Aloo chaat Made with boiled potato, Aloo chat came as a moist preparation consisting of tomatoes, onions and the like in a flavourful masala that had a hint of sourness, making this chaat tasty and yummy. Prawn chilly I thought of prawn chilly to be just another type of chinese starter but to my amazement the prawns were huge and by huge I mean very very BIG! The coating was thick and good in flavour. The quantity on the whole was amazing. To sum up, Jyoti restaurant and bar serves good food and liquor, prices of which are decent and pocket friendly. I am happy I discovered this place which is not only good at satisfying one's hunger with the quantity of food provided but also is at a walkable distance from the station.
