K. Rustom has been my favorite place for ice cream since 2009. It is located at a corner near Marine Drive, a famous spot for Mumbaikars. Back then, it wasn’t a very crowded place, but over the years, its popularity has grown. By now, I have tried almost everything on their menu. My favorites are the Chocolate & Almond Ice Cream Sandwich and the Black Currant Ice Cream Sandwich. If you want to experience wafer-sandwiched ice cream, this is the place to visit. However, one thing I don’t like about this place is that they still don’t accept online payments even in 2025. This can be inconvenient since most of us rely on digital transactions. So, if you plan to visit, make sure to carry some cash as they don’t accept any other payment methods. Another thing I have noticed is their approach to photography. While many food bloggers shoot content here, I have personally faced restrictions at times. Once, I was told not to take a picture of their ambience. So, I am not sure whether photography is allowed or if it depends on the staff’s mood. Ratings: Quality - 4/5 Quantity - 4/5 Service - 3.8/5 Price - ₹200 for 2 people For more mouthwatering food content, don't forget to follow @chefvaidehipathare on Instagram!

K. Rustom, a historic gem on Marine Drive was set up in 1953 i.e. almost 70 years old. They have lots of options to choose from. Located just a 15-minute walk along Marine Drive, this oldest parlor in the area combines tradition with inventive flavors. The place is always crowded also they don't accept online payment so don't forget to carry cash. No sitting arrangement. They serve the slab of ice cream between two thin waffles. We tried their - 1. Choco Mint crunch 2. Strawberry 3. Sitaphal The taste was decent compared to price hence according to me K Rustoms ice cream is definitely a hyped spot. But ehat truly stands out, however, is the experience. There’s something special about grabbing an ice cream late at night, either chilling outside the shop or strolling by Marine Drive. It’s the atmosphere, the nostalgia, and the city’s charm that elevate the moment. Would I go out of my way to visit again just for the ice cream? Probably not. But if I’m in the area and craving a bit of old-school Mumbai magic, I’d definitely stop by.

At K. Rustom & Co. Ice Cream Parlour, the kesar pista ice cream in their signature wafer sandwich is rich, mildly aromatic, and pleasantly nutty. The flavor is simple rather than indulgent, but the old-school charm—especially by Marine Drive—makes it a classic Mumbai experience.

While I understand why this place has so much hype, I would also say that it falls flat on its face for many basic reasons. We are in 2026 and this restaurant still does not take any online payment. There is no place to sit and enjoy the delicious ice cream sandwiches that it offers. Coming from Bangalore, the place was not as crowded as some others that I have witnessed. The ice creams tasted great but tye service overall was rather poor. For now they seem to be riding the hype which is working. But will this continue for another decade to come? I am not sure if it would unless some huge changes are made to improve the overall experience.

The ice creams are good but nothing so extraordinary about the taste.. Naturals ice creams are the best.. Only cash payment is sometimes inconvenient, to save taxes many Parsi shops aren't accepting GPay.

I was REFUSED SERVICE as they supposedly did not have change to give me (after accepting only cash anyway) .... I could see bundles of change on the cashiers counter... so I said... I can see that you have more than enough change to give me. To which he replied that he only had that much and hence he couldn't give me. This highlights the ABOMINABLE service at these so called legacy eateries. They rest on their reputation and are ARROGANT and RUDE. I actually have not experienced any other vendor REFUSING to sell me something on the premise of not having enough change ... despite me being able to see ample amount of change in plain sight. The ice cream itself is so so.... just a hype!! ... Wafer + sub par ice cream... I can put this together at home!

Disappointed. I mean it's not expensive but might as well have amul ice cream if you are looking for a cheaper alternative. Have lived in SoBo all my life but never went there. Was hosting a couple of relatives so decided to check it out. Wanted it to be good, it's below average. And the service is bad, only cash accepted.
