Lings Pavilion is peak dining in every sense - the dishes served here are what you are likely to not find in restaurants serving Indo-Chinese. And easily among the echelons of restaurants of its ilk in Tangra, Kolkata.  The dishes I tried: 1. The spare ribs in black bean sauce: Absolute 10/10, the quality of meat was perfect!  2. The Fried Corn Curd: Spectacular! A first for me. A top tier veg starter 3. Clear soup with prawns stuffed inside tofu (don't recollect the name): A very comforting broth with well cooked meat! 4. Prawn Sui Mai: The usual, like how it is in every other place.  5. Rainbow Rice (Egg): A very on point egg fried rice 6. Chilli Chicken in Oyster sauce: Kickass with the rice! 7. Honey Noodles with Icecream: Not used to dessert in a Chinese place, but it was a fun try! Prompt service, old school yet very well maintained ambience. The best part - the menu is expansive and there are many items off the menu too! Overall, Lings is an institution-cum-proper cult place for those really interested in trying new stuff. Kudos, Baba Ling!

Had a fantastic experience at Ling’s Pavilion in Colaba. The service was excellent — our waiter, Shankar, knew the menu inside out and guided us perfectly while placing the order. His recommendations were spot on. The Nanking prawns were the standout of the meal — a solid 10/10. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and truly memorable. The Spare ribs were soft, tender, and beautifully done — 9/10. But the dish that completely stole my heart was the Soft Noodles with bamboo shoot and bok choy — an easy 11/10. Comforting, soulful and the kind of bowl that just makes everything feel better. Overall, a wonderful dining experience with great food and even better service. Highly recommended, especially if you are dining out with family.

Very old school restaurant, the service is pretty slow but the quality and quantity of food is great. The dishes are extremely tasty. I tried their Mongolian pork dry and steamed pork wet noodles. I just loved it. Tastes more like Calcutta chinese.

Had a terrible experience here today. My husband and I ordered a soup and a starter at 230 pm and then within 5 to 10 minutes we placed our order for the main course ( only 1 dish). The soup and starter came timely enough, maybe a little slow, was quite delicious. However the main course never arrived! We kept reminding the waiters and we were continuously told just 5 minutes, almost done, etc. At 340 pm we still had not received our main course. At 345 pm we were told our order was misplaced and it would take 5 more minutes. At this my husband and I both got very angry and we asked for the bill. We asked to meet the manager and there was no response, apparently there was no manage. They took us to the cash desk where the guy gave us the bill. There was zero apology, zero effort at comp -ing us a dish, zero interest in any kind of service to a still hungry customer. We were celebrating a career achievement of mine and this was supposed to be a special meal which was completely ruined by the lackadaisical, negligent and careless staff. We do not know whose fault it was- whether the waiters or the kitchen staff as nobody bothered to give us any explanation. This used to be a favourite place of ours pre covid but my husband has said he won't set foot here again.

The Service is Pathethic. Took Almost More Than an Hour To Get The Order. Guess More Waiters/ Staff Required. Visited After Long Time But Disappointed With The Service. Food is OK. Service Has Never Been This Bad Earlier even On Holidays/ Festivals

We went with such high expectations but were extremely Disappointed. The food was oily and just expensive. The ambience was dead, the tables were bad…

Lings Pavilion is an overrated restaurant with extremely poor service. The staff is unprofessional, and only one person seems to take orders. The worst part? They take over 60 minutes to serve food—even something as basic as soup. Their work ethics are questionable. I asked to speak to a manager, only to find out that the same person taking orders was also in charge—completely unhelpful. The staff lacks professionalism, and the service is unacceptable. To make matters worse, one of the servers, a heavier-set man, acted aggressively, challenging me to eat the food. I genuinely felt uncomfortable and even feared potential tampering with my meal, forcing me to leave. It’s disappointing because the food itself is decent, but the service and staff attitude ruin the entire experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

1/5 – Extremely Disappointing Experience I visited this restaurant with high expectations, given its reputation as the oldest and first Chinese restaurant in Colaba with a rich heritage. Sadly, the experience was a complete letdown. I ordered Veg Chilli Garlic Noodles with Manchurian, and the taste was shockingly poor. It was bland, oily, and lacked any authentic Chinese flavor — honestly, even a roadside thela or wedding buffet serves better noodles. To make matters worse, the service was extremely slow, with long wait times and little attention from the staff. For a place known for its legacy, this was nothing short of a disappointment. Would not recommend. Definitely not worth the hype.
