Suraj Lama Momos is located right opposite A.B. Goregaonkar School in Goregaon West, and it is just at a 5-minute distance from Goregaon Station West. The outlet is a small set-up with five tables that can accommodate around 20 people at a time. You will notice beautiful decor done in a Nepali style, which instantly makes the space feel different from regular momo joints. It has a homely vibe, and there are a few unique artifacts placed around, and some of them are actually up for sale. It’s also a nice Instagram-friendly spot if you enjoy clicking pictures. They also serve Hakka noodles and Thukpa. Coming to the food, I ordered Chicken Achari Tandoori Momo, Chicken Pahadi Tandoori Momo, and Paneer Suraj Lama Special Momo. The Chicken Achari Tandoori Momo was coated in flavourful achari masala and sprinkled with black sesame seeds. It was mildly spiced and very well-cooked. The Chicken Pahadi Tandoori Momo had a green masala coating and was definitely spicier and very flavourful. The Tandoori Momo came with three chutneys — one was spicy momo chutney, one was mild momo chutney, and the third was a fresh green chutney. The Paneer Suraj Lama Special Momo was served in a tangy tomato-based gravy. It reminded me more of a momo curry and had a nicely balanced flavour. All the momos were served hot and fresh, and the portion size was good too. The staff was friendly and polite. They made sure our food was served within 10 minutes after placing the order, which I found impressive. The service was smooth and quick, even though the place is small. The best time to visit would be early evening as it tends to get crowded later. When I visited, it wasn’t crowded at all, which made the experience even better. One thing I really liked is that they serve momo the authentic way. You won’t find mayonnaise on the side, which I personally feel keeps the experience true to what momo is supposed to be. I would definitely recommend this place for solo diners, small groups, or a quick casual meal. I would come back for the Chicken Pahadi Tandoori Momo. It had a generous filling, was nicely spiced, and the green masala gave it a very unique flavour.
