Dumbo Deli in Lodhi Colony absolutely lives up to its viral reputation. I finally tried their iconic Paradiso Sandwich along with their Cold Coffee, and every bit of the hype felt well deserved. The Paradiso Sandwich is a masterclass in comfort food. Perfectly balanced, generously layered, incredibly scrumptious, and bursting with flavour in every bite. Pair it with their rich, smooth Cold Coffee, and you’ve got one of the most satisfying café combinations in the city. Without a doubt, this is one of the finest sandwiches you’ll find in Delhi NCR. If you’re a sandwich lover, Dumbo Deli deserves a spot at the very top of your food bucket list. I’ll definitely be back for another round.

The Sandwich Republic of Meharchand Market When Dumbo Deli gets it right, it really gets it right! Let me be honest with you. I have visited enough delis — in New York, in London, in Singapore, and rather too many in Delhi — to have developed a certain wariness about the genre. The word "deli" has become dangerously elastic in this city, applied freely to everything from a convenience store with a panini press to a café that once saw a picture of a reuben on Pinterest and hasn't looked back. So when I found myself walking into Dumbo Deli in Meharchand Market on a recent afternoon, I carried, as always, the quiet armour of measured expectation. It was dismantled, fairly quickly, by a sandwich. But first, a word about the space — because at Dumbo, the space is very much part of the experience, whether you want it to be or not. It is small. I don't mean "intimate" in the way that estate agents use the word to make you feel better about a flat you couldn't swing a cat in. I mean genuinely compact, in the manner of the best sandwich shops the world over, where the emphasis is not on where you sit but on what you eat. Four green marble coffee tables are the sum total of your seating options, and on a busy afternoon — which is to say, most afternoons — you are unlikely to find even these available without a period of patient waiting. This is by design, I think. Dumbo Deli is not a restaurant. It is, in the truest sense, a deli counter experience: you walk in, you place your order at the counter, you pay, and you wait. It is closer in spirit to a great New York bodega than to anything you'd find on a brunch menu in Hauz Khas Village, and that, I would argue, is precisely its virtue. Now, to the matter of the Florentine sandwiches. These are the items that draw the queue — and there is always a queue — and they sell out with a speed that is, frankly, almost offensive. Within three hours of opening. I am told this with the practiced calm of staff who have watched too many hopeful faces arrive at the wrong hour and leave deflated. If you want one, plan accordingly. Come early, or accept your fate with grace. I came for the PARADISO, and the PARADISO is the reason I will come back. Here is what it contains: grilled peri peri chicken, chili crisp, charred pepper aioli, pickled cucumber, and rocket leaves. These are ingredients that, in less capable hands, might compete loudly with each other and produce the kind of sandwich that is more mood board than meal. But Dumbo understands the architecture of a good sandwich. Everything is calibrated — the heat of the peri peri, the cool sharpness of the pickle, the smoky depth of the charred pepper aioli, the clean bite of the rocket. Nothing bullies anything else. It is a democratic sandwich, and democracy, as we know, is harder to achieve than it looks. What ties it all together, however — and this is the detail that separates the serious from the merely competent — is the focaccia. The bread is made in-house, and it shows. Thick, baked to a confidence that only comes from knowing your recipe, it has the right amount of fluffiness in the interior and a crust that offers just enough resistance before yielding. It is the kind of bread that makes you wish more places in Delhi would take bread-making half as seriously. I cannot stress this enough: the focaccia alone is worth the visit. The sides are solid without being revelatory. The golden chicken nuggets arrive with what the menu calls a sunburnt spice rub, which delivers a gentle, warm heat that lingers pleasantly. They are not trying to reinvent anything, and they don't need to. For drinks, Dumbo has made an interesting choice. Their coffee and matcha offerings arrive in miniature glass bottles — minimally branded, slightly reminiscent of the small desi liquor bottles you might encounter at a railway station or a government wine shop, except infinitely more charming and considerably better for you. I tried both the fresh blueberry matcha and the fresh mango matcha, and found them well-made and refreshing, with the fruit integration feeling genuine rather than syrupy. The coffee programme is handled by Billi Hu, a homegrown roaster of some reputation, and the quality is evident. One cannot leave without mentioning the softy. Millet cones, and a flavour that changes daily — dependent, as the staff cheerfully inform you, on "vibes." This is the kind of nonchalance that would irritate me if the execution weren't good. It is. The softy is light, the millet cone adds an earthy note that elevates it above the ordinary, and the daily rotation keeps it interesting. A small note on what Dumbo becomes after dark: past eight in the evening, the deli transforms — rather dramatically — into a dive bar. A reservation is required, and the space accommodates only eight people for the cocktail experience. It is, in every sense, the opposite of a sprawling bar with a 200-cover capacity and a DJ who considers himself an artist. Whether this transformation works is something I shall have to investigate on another visit. For now, what I can tell you is this: Dumbo Deli is a small operation run with diligence and a certain focused vision. The staff are navigating the particular chaos of multiple orders, limited bread availability, and a constant stream of customers in a space that does not forgive inefficiency, and they are doing so with commendable composure. Is it perfect? No. The seating will test your patience. The Florentines will evade you if you aren't strategic. The crowd on a busy afternoon makes the space feel more hectic than contemplative. But for those sandwiches, for that focaccia, for the quiet seriousness with which Dumbo approaches what it does — I would queue. I did queue. I would do so again. Meharchand Market has, over the years, built a reputation for doing things quietly well. Dumbo Deli belongs here.

Splitting this into positives and negatives, as they do with their sandwiches (if requested) ❤️: The sandwich breads are heavenly, regardless of the filling. The Capri is the best, for omnivores. Recommend Marco for the shakaharees. Most of the coffees are an acquired taste. The safest bet for novelty is the Brown Butter Foam one. The menu is simplistic. Decision Paralysis: Error 404 The straws are made of wood🥳 Prudent eco friendly move. (Looking at you, you half dissolved, paper straw) Efficient service! 💔: Hard to justify the cost, given that there is limited seating space and that too not so ergonomic. I hope you make the prettiest faces as you devour sandwich while a stranger sits right opposite you The gap between the star performers and the rest of the offerings is, concerningly, huge For the connoisseurs, bean quality will let you down. TL,DR: Get the Capri(non veg), Marco(veg) and a Brown Butter Foam coffee for the experience, taste and the best of Dumbo

The cookie that was served had a solid piece of glass. We raised it with the manager. No explanation,no acknowledgement no Apology. Very casual attitude of the staff and manager. The audacity you guys have to charge service charges for Shit service. Your manager did not even have the courtesy to apologise. he offered a cookie again from the same batch. like we would want another piece of glass in our food. The entire batch should have been trashed and not sold to any customer. Remove the O from your name. you and staff are plain dumb.

This place is a total hype. Very unhygienic- lot of flies and mosquitoes. AC was dripping. Food was very expensive based on the quality of the cafe. There are many places in South Delhi which are very comfortable and reasonable. My recommendation is to avoid wasting your money. Sandwiches are also not that great. It’s just fine 2-3 star rating is fair.

The place feels quite overhyped and, unfortunately, doesn’t live up to the expectations it sets. While the food was average at best, the overall experience was the bigger disappointment. The staff was not particularly warm or courteous, and the service was far from what you would expect from a place positioned at this level. Overall, there wasn’t much that stood out in terms of food, hospitality, or the overall experience. Definitely not a place I would recommend based on my experience.
