This restaurant proves how South Indian food is more than just dosas and idlis. We absolutely loved their kerela style fish, potlam paneer coconut masala with malabar parotha, their benne dosa, paneer 65 and signature idli are good too! We Ended with their coconut and apricot delight and it’s literally South India met tres leches!!

Kopparai - The South Indian Kitchen in Hauz Khas is an absolute gem. We dropped by for breakfast, and while they run a limited morning menu, the experience feels instantly authentic the moment they lay down fresh banana leaves on your table. We ordered a heavy spread, and most of the dishes completely blew us away: Signature Idli: This was incredibly unique! Steam-cooked fresh inside a coconut shell, it was unbelievably light, fluffy, and perfectly fermented—the kind that practically melts in your mouth. Paired with their fresh chutneys and a stellar, aromatic sambar, it set a very high bar for the rest of the meal. Nellore Ghee Karam Dosa: Hands down one of the highlights of our morning. It hit the absolute sweet spot of being beautifully crispy on the outside while packing a bold, fiery punch of flavors on the inside. Kopparai Signature Masala Dosa: This isn't your average masala dosa. The filling is entirely unique, made with perfectly roasted potatoes and fried onions—a combination I haven't come across anywhere else. It strikes a fantastic balance of textures without feeling heavy on the palate. Poori Aloo Koora: The only real letdown of the spread. It felt a bit flat, lacking the distinct taste and robust flavors that made the other dishes stand out. The sambar deserves a special shoutout it was seasoned to absolute perfection. Beyond the food, the service was wonderfully courteous and highly efficient. Even with a large order, every single dish arrived piping hot and beautifully presented. If you are looking for a top-tier, authentic South Indian food in South Delhi, this place comes highly recommended. Just make sure you don't skip the idlis and dosas!

Kopparai’s signature idly was outshined by the podi, sambar and peanut chutney! The egg appam and stew was great too but the appam didn’t have the middle poof-y part. Will go back again !

The food at Kopparai was good, and we enjoyed our meal. However, the experience at the time of payment completely spoiled an otherwise pleasant visit. When I tried paying the bill, the card transaction failed a couple of times due to what appeared to be a card machine issue. Instead of assuming it could be a technical problem, the manager asked me, “Do you have sufficient balance in your bank to pay?” I found this comment disrespectful and embarrassing, especially in front of my family. It felt like an unnecessary assumption about my ability to pay. When another card machine was used, the payment went through instantly using the same card, proving the issue was with the machine, not my bank account. Technical issues can happen, but customer service is reflected in how staff handle them. I hope the management trains their team to treat customers with more professionalism and avoid making such hurtful assumptions.

This place was quite the disappointment considering all the hype. The 65 was soggy. We also made the mistake of ordering whole wheat parottas. They were essentially laccha paranthas, and bad even by those standards, tough and leathery. If the team is unable to get the "healthier" recipe right, it's better to not put the item on the menu to begin with, than to serve something that barely resembles what it claims to be. The service was mid too, with the staff making us rush even when the restaurant wasn't packed. I understand the need to ensure quick turnarounds, but it needs to be done with some tact, else I might as well eat at a cafeteria. Overall, not worth the money they charge.
