Mestizo in Vasant Vihar is such a vibe. The Mexican-inspired interiors and overall atmosphere are spot on, making it a great place to hang out. The food is solid, but the cocktails are the real winners, super creative and well-made. If you're looking for a spot with great energy and even better drinks in Vasant Vihar, this is definitely a must-visit.

Mestizo Brings Latin Heat to Delhi There's a certain thrill that comes with discovering a restaurant that gets it right—not just the food, but the whole package. The vibe, the energy, the sense that you're somewhere special. I felt that unmistakable buzz the moment I walked into Mestizo on a Saturday evening. Perched above Khi Khi at PVR Highstreet, this new Latin American venture has announced its arrival with considerable confidence. And unlike many of Delhi's flash-in-the-pan openings that promise much and deliver little, Mestizo seems to understand what it takes to create a memorable dining experience. THE SETTING The first thing that strikes you is how the restaurant wears its Latin American identity—boldly, but without descending into theme-park territory. The interiors are done up in earthy tones punctuated by bursts of tropical colour and handcrafted décor that feels authentic rather than affected. There's a warmth to the space that instantly puts you at ease. But it's the outdoor area that truly seals the deal. Lush with greens and blooms, it's the sort of space that makes you want to linger over another round of drinks with friends, watching the evening unfold. Delhi doesn't have enough such spaces—restaurants that understand the value of good outdoor seating done well. I arrived to find the place buzzing with just the right amount of energy. Not so packed that you're fighting to be heard, but lively enough to feel like something's happening. The soundtrack deserves special mention—a clever mix of familiar tunes that hit that sweet spot between nostalgic and current. A few drinks in, I caught myself mouthing lyrics I hadn't thought about in years. That's the mark of a well-curated playlist: it enhances without overwhelming. THE FOOD Now, Latin American cuisine is tricky territory. It's vast, diverse, and too often reduced to tired clichés in Indian restaurants. Mestizo's menu ambitiously spans the continent—from Mexico to Argentina, Chile to Brazil, with Spanish influences woven through—and the kitchen largely delivers on that promise. The New Zealand Lamb Chops were exemplary. Grilled to perfection, they came with a corn-potato hash, herb sauce, and butternut squash purée that showed real technique. The lamb itself was tender and flavourful, and the accompaniments weren't mere afterthoughts—each element pulled its weight on the plate. The Norwegian Salmon, miso-glazed and grilled, was another winner. The glaze gave it a beautiful caramelised exterior while the fish remained moist within. Served with a fresh salad and creamy mashed potato, it was comfort food elevated. For vegetarians, the Exotic Vegetables and Tofu in Black Bean Sauce proved that meat-free options needn't be relegated to afterthought status. Paired with burnt garlic fried rice that had actual wok hei—that elusive smoky flavour you get from proper high-heat cooking—this was hearty, satisfying fare. But if there's one dish you absolutely must not skip, it's the Churros. Yes, I know—churros have become ubiquitous, appearing on every menu from standalone dessert bars to hotel coffee shops. But these were the real deal. Properly crisp on the outside, fluffy within, generously dusted with cinnamon, and served with a trio of dips—dark chocolate, white chocolate, and salted caramel. Sometimes the classics endure because they're simply very, very good. THE VERDICT What Mestizo gets right is understanding that a restaurant is more than the sum of its dishes. It's about creating an experience—one where the food, the setting, the music, and the service come together to transport you somewhere else for a few hours. Latin American restaurants have had a patchy track record in Delhi. Too many have either dumbed down the cuisine or gone overly precious with it. Mestizo seems to have found a middle path—respecting the traditions while making the food accessible and, crucially, delicious. Is everything perfect? No restaurant ever is. But Mestizo has arrived with enough swagger and substance to suggest it's here to stay. In a city that's always hungry for the next big thing, that's no small achievement.

1. The drinks were not good - none of the 5 we had. they were diluted and not rich with flavour 2. the service was delayed. 3. the food wasn't great. Of the two dishes we had, one wasn't flavourful, the other (loaded nachos) was good.

This is a not-so-fine dining restaurant. The portion sizes are measly for the high prices (the taste, though not great, wasn't terrible), the staff is terribly untrained, and even the place itself isn't well-maintained. The waiters repeatedly left the balcony door open and the cold draft blew towards us, another brought our food noisily on a tray whose wheels were an insult to rolling friction, another brought the ingredients of our guacamole and prepared it even more noisily, needlessly standing on our heads in an empty restaurant. The light bulb above our table wasn't working. These are just some examples. I don't even wish to blame the staff so much because this culture flows top-down and the owners clearly don't care to have one. I suppose the place was so empty not just because it was a weekday but because most people only ever dine here once. And rightly so. Never to be repeated.
