Minar Restaurant@New Delhi is one of the most popular Indian food restaurant in Connaught Place. Its history is really old as its by the same owners running age old Bhape Da Hotel Dhaba @CP! The place was on my list since long and finally managed to visit. We went in a big group and it helped in giving an order covering veg and non veg, soup starters and main course. We ordered vegetable and non veg mamchow soup and chicken malai tikka, paneer chilly dry and fish tikka for starters. The soup was ok and malai tikka fine but the paneer chilly was good and fish tikka was superb. The service was prompt and we ordered their popular butter chicken and palak paneer for main course. It had been years since I had good mutton kofta and ordered the same as well. The dishes were relished with butter nana and lachcha paratha. The meal was finished with jeera rice and chicken biryani. The Indian maincourse was superb and for me mutton Kofta stood out! A really yummy heartful Delhi style dinner with friends!!

I had heard that their Butter Chicken is to die for. Was nothing to write home about. Enjoyed the Chicken Burrah though.

Initially, my plan was to go to Karim’s at Jama Masjid. But on an already bad day and in a bad mood, I decided to settle for a nice, posh restaurant in Connaught Place instead. Minar, being famous for its Butter Chicken and also having a bar attached, ticked all the boxes for the day. And I’ve always loved Connaught Place. The ambience was chic but somehow felt claustrophobic. It gave off more of an old-age bar vibe than that of a restaurant and reminded me of the bars and restaurants shown in the movie ‘Sarfarosh’. The waiters, too, felt lethargic. Overall, it wasn’t a very inviting environment. That said, I would have liked to visit this place with my boys for a drink or two. Maybe the unfamiliarity added to the eeriness as well. The bar had an all-day 15 percent discount. I initially ordered a pint of Budweiser, followed by a Kingfisher Ultra Max. The former was good; the latter felt very watered down. Still, it did the needful—it put me at ease after a stressful morning. As per the waiter’s recommendation, we ordered Garlic Chicken Tikka (half), which tasted wonderful. Though I do wonder what the difference is between the normal and the garlic version. In Delhi, one has to be really careful to specify “half,” because if you simply name the dish, you’re rarely asked whether you want half or full. The chicken Tikka itself was excellent. Next, we ordered the much-famed butter chicken (half) with Roti and Mutton Pulao. I knew the Pulao wouldn’t suit our palate, and I was absolutely right—we didn’t like it at all. The meat pieces were horrid too. I had no complaints about the Roti, though my partner did, as she isn’t used to tandoori roti. The butter chicken was the biggest disappointment. It was worse than what I’ve had at many local restaurants. It had a slightly tangy taste, which was quite annoying—it should have been rich and buttery rather than tangy. Adding to that, the pricing was odd, with both boneless and bone-in versions priced the same, so we naturally opted for the boneless. Overall, it was a disappointing visit. If not for the beer, I’d have walked away even more dissatisfied.

I would say that it is a highly overhyped place. overhyped butter chicken. They charge u around 1500 including tax for their butter chicken, and what they serve is a very ordinary 500 gram weighing chicken. Not satisfied.

The restaurant has lost it’s charm.. We ordered three dishes put which the butter chicken was too salty , malai kofta was pathetic , dal tadka was more worse and moreover the breads were burnt.. On complaining to the owner , he had no reaction and was just looking here and there !!

The butter chicken is the worst. It’s too watery and flavorless. Just tomato sauce and cream mixed together. Naan and mutton burara was alright.
