Woods cafe: Shillong's Ultimate Food Haven So, our trip to Shillong started off a bit rocky—our hotel totally flaked on our booking. But hey, silver linings! We ended up at this amazing homestay surrounded by lush pine trees and rolling hills. And guess what? Right at the entrance, there was this super cool boutique cafe called Woods cafe. First off, Woods cafe has such a vibey atmosphere—think lively pop music and a chic, uptown feel. It’s run by a lovely Punjabi/Sikh family who made us feel right at home. On our first day, we were on a mission to find good vegetarian food (sans onion and garlic). Our initial attempts were a total fail—Jeva Veg served us few ridiculously salty dosa for ₹1200, and Swiggy and Zomato orders were equally disappointing. Desperate for something decent, we decided to check out Woods cafe. And OMG, the menu was like a dream! From Indian classics like Pav Bhaji, Chole Bhature, and Aloo Parathas to street food favorites like Tikki Chaat. They even had European and Italian options—pasta, pizza, you name it. We ordered with a few tweaks (no onion, garlic, more curd, cooked in ghee) and were blown away by how amazing everything tasted. It felt like home-cooked food, but with pro chef skills. From that day on, Woods cafe became our foodie HQ. We tried everything—homely Chola Rai, Aloo Parathas with homemade curd, Bhindi curry, Gobi curry, and more. The best part? The prices were super reasonable for the quality and quantity. It’s seriously underrated for what they offer. Even after moving to another swanky property, we kept coming back to Cafe Woods. The food was unbeatable. Plus, their variety is insane—they’ve got Indian, European, and fast food down pat. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it’s all good. Woods cafe is hands down the best spot in Shillong. If you’re ever in town, this is the place to eat. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you. PS: We couldn’t take any pictures because every time we are so hungry, and the food was so good that we couldn’t resist finishing it. Totally forgot for pictures
