I have visited this place for may family get together and dinner and amazed by the ambience, food and service. I would say this is one of the best fine dine restaurants in Varanasi . Only recommendation is to increase the portion size a bit as it’s little less in comparison to other places we have.

During my recent visit to Canton Royal restaurant with my parents and wife, we opted for the Maharaja Thali and Maharani Thali. The Maharaja Thali included Paneer Hyderabadi, Corn Palak, Kofta, Dal Makhani, Biryani, and Dessert, while the Maharani Thali featured Paneer Handi, Angoori Kofta, Dal Maharani, Pulao, and Gulab Jamun. The restaurant's ambiance was pleasant, providing a comfortable setting for our dinner. The staff was quick and attentive, ensuring that we were promptly seated and attended to throughout our meal. Their efficiency contributed to a positive dining experience. Moving on to the food, the thalis offered a wide variety of dishes. The Maharaja Thali included Paneer Hyderabadi, Corn Palak, Kofta, Dal Makhani, Biryani, and Dessert. While the flavors of the dishes were generally good, it is worth mentioning that the Handi Paneer, Corn Palak, and Angoori Kofta were just average in taste. These particular dishes lacked the wow factor we were expecting and could have been more flavorful and well-seasoned. Additionally, they had mentioned Welcome Drink with Thali but they didn't serve that.  However, the other items in the thalis such as Paneer Hyderabadi, Dal Makhani, and the Biryani stood out with their delicious flavors and authentic preparations. The Dal Makhani was rich and creamy, and the Biryani had a fragrant aroma with well-cooked rice. The desserts provided a sweet ending to our dinner, with the Gulab Jamun being particularly enjoyable. Overall, Canton Royal restaurant at Hotel Surya offers a decent dining experience. While some dishes like Handi Paneer, Corn Palak, and Angoori Kofta were average in taste, the other dishes such as Paneer Hyderabadi, Dal Makhani, and Biryani were delicious and satisfying. It's worth noting that taste preferences can vary, and while certain dishes might not have met our expectations, others may find them enjoyable. We appreciate the restaurant's effort to offer a variety of options and their efficient service, making it a suitable choice for a pleasant dining experience in Varanasi.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 — Food That Deserves Awards, Service That Deserves… Training 😅 We’ve been going to Canton for the last three nights, and let me tell you the food is mind-blowingly good. Easily one of the best restaurants in Varanasi. Udon noodle soup? Killer. Kashmiri pulao? Fluffy perfection. Naans, fries, ravioli, chilli chicken, Thai curry, lassi not a single miss. But the service… oh boy. If the food is Michelin-level, the service is “bro, are you new here?” level. They bring the food from the kitchen and just drop it on the table like a parcel delivery no serving, no nothing. And the funniest part? If it’s a big group of 10-15 people, suddenly the staff becomes super professional and serves everything properly. Apparently the plates get full only when the tables are full. 🤷‍♂️ And then came the legendary soup incident. We ordered 1-by-2 clear soup. What we got first: one full portion. What happened next: the waiter comes back with an extra bowl and pours the soup right in front of us like he’s doing a chemistry experiment, splashing it on the table, bowl, and then calmly walks off to take another order. Didn’t even blink. At this point, we weren’t sure if we were in a restaurant or part of a social experiment. Service is slow, confused, and honestly entertaining at times but definitely not ideal. Food: outstanding. Service: needs a software update. If they fix the service, Canton could easily become the place to eat in Varanasi.

Positives : Ambience is really good Must try Millet Kofta Areas of Improvement: 1. Food being served was cold 2. Food taste was not good in comparison to price being charged 3. Nachoes although made from scratch were chewy and the toppings were tasteless far from Mexican

Starters were served cold. Main course was ok. Service super slow. Came here looking at the reviews, not at all impressed.

I visited the place recently with family, and ordered a soup, veg galouti kebabs and the main course - chef special baghara baigan, dal makhni, onion Kulcha, butter nan and vegetable raita, followed by a lime soda n ice tea If you are there for the royally rustic, old-world vibe, and can EAT THE AMBIENCE(instead of food) , then the place is a must go. The shorba was good, galouti kebabs were also good. The servers there are such a reckless group, that they got the whole order together, despite clear instructions that the main course strictly after we are finished with the soup n starter On pointing this out, they took away the main course only to return with the same food 15 mins later till when it had turned cold. The managers are too occupied with don't know what that they are always running around doing nothing. The chef special baghara baigan was told to be spicy, which turned out to be complete opposite The Dal was fine Raita was sour as a lemon, probably stored for a day or two before serving. The breads were thick as a thigh and when highlighted, the staff was quick to school you as to how they can't be crispy and thin as if you are a naive foreigner who'll buy any excuse regarding Indian food n how it can't be the way even after instructions. On the pretext of changing, they get you the same piece of food reheated and claim that's how it is. Lime soda, n hibiscus ice tea were a refreshing change to the experience, both of them were excellent. All in all, they are a bunch of idiots running the serving part, the chefs seem to be good, but alas, the servers are a group of reckless idiots with managers very well supporting them which turns the overall experience a very bad one as far as food is concerned.

Ambience - it feels like you are sitting on side of road where waiters are rushing by you but unfortunately not attending you. A failed attempt to lit a candle on dinner table. AC and fan combination available but still not covering several seating tables. Food - Reshmi kebab too oily , Paneer kaleji with few traces of real paneer , hardly could remind you that it’s a paneer or something else. Service - please ask for help as you might be forgotten by the service staff even after taking your order. Cost - with above in consideration cost wise is equally expensive, which doesn’t equates well with kind of service given.

Service is extremely poor on weekends. To bring 1 roti they were taking 15-20mins and food was getting cold. Their spicy gravies are not spicy.
