About the venue

Elemental Alchemy: The five elements are honoured through ancient pottery and experiential dining at Kaner Retreat.

Guests begin with a guided viewing of the Thar Desert Pottery Project, an innovative exhibit curated by Dr Madan Meena. Meena—who is an artist, a documentarian, and an academic—has spent the last two years travelling through the Thar Desert, collecting over 800 objects from across the Thar.

Guests are then invited to sit down to a seven-course meal designed by celebrated chef Pankaj Sharma, who was named one of Conde Nast Traveller's 40 under 40 chefs. The menu, which integrates locally sourced ingredients, was inspired by Panchmahabhuta (the five elements). In keeping with the spirit of the potter communities, meals are served communally, with all guests dining together at one table.

It's almost impossible to describe Kaner, it really is that special and unique. Our 3 night stay was magical at this wonderfully remote and little known area between Jodhpur and Jaipur. Having said that, it was easy for us to get to after a short flight from Delhi and then a pre arranged pick up from Jodhpur's small airport. The setting is breathtaking. We arrived in the late afternoon and it was wonderful to sit with a cool drink in the beautiful grounds watching the sun set over the desert. The whole property is beautifully designed. Our rooms were stylish and generous. The food was incredible. Making full use of local ingredients, it was delicious and beautifully presented. The 7 course lunch which forms part of one of the experiences on offer was like nothing else. The chefs involved clearly have incredible talent. The jeep drive into the desert and candle lit meal on the dunes was an absolute highlight of our stay. Sapna and Samir have created something very special and we were delighted that we could include time at Kaner on our trip.Read More

I stayed at Kaner Botanical Resort and the visit moved me deeply. The place looks like a deliberate work of art - every object, colour plus corner fits together and shows forethought. Because I guide tours for a living and travel without pause, I seldom meet such polish in India. The resort treats the desert as a partner, not a backdrop. The founders kept the land intact but also then improved it - the dunes now hold more plants, birds and animals than before. A guest sees the gain in every courtyard and path. I thank Sapna besides Samir for their open kindness - they watched every detail and turned a simple stay into a valued memory. I praise Kaner Botanical Resort without reserve - the place will not leave you! 🙏Read More

We spent last New Year’s at Kaner Retreat, and it remains one of the best hospitality experiences we’ve ever had. The property is beautiful — peaceful, thoughtfully designed, and run with an attention to detail that’s rare to find. But the real magic of Kaner Retreat is the people. The hospitality here is genuinely next level. We were travelling with our 4-month-old baby, and the care we received was something we’ll never forget. Sapna Bhatia, the owner, made us feel completely at home. She didn’t just check in on us — she went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable at every step. She even took care of our baby while we ate so we could enjoy our meals properly. You don’t expect this level of warmth and involvement from anyone, let alone the owner of a luxury property. And the food… truly extraordinary. I’ve travelled the world and eaten at some of the best places, but Kaner Retreat easily stands out as one of the finest culinary experiences I’ve had. Every single meal was on point — fresh, flavourful, and cooked with real passion. Not a single dish disappointed. The personalised experience, the genuine warmth, and the seamless hospitality made this stay unforgettable. Kaner Retreat is not just a beautiful property; it’s a place where you’re taken care of like family. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a meaningful, memorable, and deeply comfortable stay.Read More

There are few places you’ll stay that leave you feeling genuinely inspired. What Sapna and Samir have created with Kaner is nothing short of remarkable. The service is outstanding, and everything was so well organised as well as educational. Throughout our stay we had the right amount of quiet time as well as getting to know others who were enjoying all that Kaner has to offer. Particular highlights for us included paragliding and the dune dinner. This place is only going to get better, and I could recommend it highly enough.Read More

A very special place owned and run by very special people. The experience is magical, built around the beauty of the Thar Desert. The food that the desert helped provide was amongst the best we’ve eaten and being foodies the bar was high. Time after time Samir introduced us to another wonderful experience. His knowledge of the history and traditions gave a brilliant insight and his stories of the stars were a special moment. Thank you Samir and your familyRead More
