About the Event

A Day In Depth is a 23-part performance exploring time, space, and perception through the lived experiences of visually impaired and sighted performers.

If a story is a mere sequence of events in time organised into a structure of a plot, this performance is interested in how this sequence can possibly be unsettled through the point of view of a visually impaired singular observer.

This performance includes a striking moment where a casual, quiet atmosphere is suddenly interrupted by sharp sound and light. A young student figure emerges under intense white lighting, symbolizing a shift in perception and power. Through this rupture, the piece invites audiences to reimagine how learning and leading unfold across different bodies and abilities.

Conceived by contemporary choreographer Dayanand Akhilesh, this work plays with exaggeration, stillness, and narrative rupture—centered around sensory intelligence.

The vision for this project is rooted in both artistic presentation and long-term engagement with the community. Beyond simply touring the piece, this project is imagined as a sustained process, not only of performance, but of learning, unlearning, and exchange.

A key element of this process involves collaborating with visually impaired (VI) artists across various locations. Through workshops and mentorship sessions, the goal is to share the process of making art while creating space for VI artists to begin teaching movement and artistic thinking themselves.

This approach is driven by a deep belief that art is not yet truly inclusive, and that this must change. By opening up the artistic process—inviting all bodies, all identities, and all learners to teach, create, and share—this project challenges hierarchies and makes space for new voices in performance.

This performance is being developed at Beru Art and Cultural Foundation in Bengaluru—a space dedicated to nurturing artists and building a strong artistic community.
