‘A Golden String’ is a performance work that meshes music, poetry, and visual art to offer a raw encounter with the mind of visionary poet and artist William Blake. It features legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah and singer Susheela Raman, alongside her co-composer Sam Mills.
Blake’s work was rooted in London, but the mythic, archetypal imaginings within his words and images have had a global reach.
Performing A Golden String, with elements of translation and Blake-adjacent Indian texts, draws out and engages with local resonances, as Blake’s radical vision finds echoes across cultures. This version includes Hindustani elements, translated by the eminent writer and performer Mahmood Farooqui.
