Bandargah & Surgery — A Comedy Double Bill by Anton Chekhov

Raahi Theatre Group presents an evening of sharp comedy, absurd situations and human behaviour through two entertaining works inspired by the world of Anton Chekhov — Bandargah and Surgery.

Bandargah takes us to a lonely seaside setting where a strange encounter between Chekhov and Mawali turns into an unexpected conversation about entertainment, money, morality and the value we place on another person’s suffering. What begins as a seemingly simple situation gradually becomes an absurd and darkly comic theatrical experience.

In Surgery, a patient arrives with unbearable toothache expecting relief. Instead, he finds himself in the hands of an inexperienced medical assistant who is far more confident than his experience allows. What follows is a hilarious battle of pain, fear, ego and professional pride.

Together, Bandargah & Surgery create a comic evening where laughter comes from ordinary people caught in extraordinary situations. The performances explore Chekhov’s characteristic observation of human nature through physical comedy, sharp conversations and theatrical absurdity.
