Come Sit With Us - III

Divorce doesn't only touch the two people signing the papers. It touches the child who grew up between two unhappy parents. The sibling who watched and didn't know what to say. The friend who got the 11 PM call. The person sitting in the middle of it right now.

This afternoon is for all of you.

New this time: The Listening Booth.

A soundproof room, one person at a time.

Inside, a curated set of recorded stories - real accounts of people who've been through separation, a difficult marriage between parents, or watched someone they love go through it. You sit, you listen, you leave whenever you're ready. No conversation required. Just the relief of hearing someone else say the thing you've never said out loud.

What to Expect

Arrival

Come at your own pace. You made it; come, sit with us. No forms, no small talk needed.

Opening Circle

A brief welcome from the host to the whole room. And as is tradition, reading out stories, poetry, musings - from people in the community submitted anonymously here.

One simple thing we'll ask everyone to share, only if you're comfortable - just a word, or why you came today. We'll also walk through how the afternoon works, including what to expect inside the listening booth.

The Heart of the Afternoon

Four spaces open up, running alongside each other - move between them as you need:

Listening Booth: A soundproof room that allows one person at a time. Sit with curated recorded stories from people who've lived through divorce or its ripple effects. Take a token at the door, stop anytime, and someone's there for a quiet check-in when you come out.

Recording Corner: Leave your own voice on tape, if you'd like. This is how the archive grows for the next person who sits in the booth.

Small Circles: 20-minute facilitated rounds for those who want to talk. Grouped so no one has to hold back or hear more than they came for.

Quiet Corner: For sitting, writing, or just being, with a story wall nearby for anyone who'd rather read than speak.

Coming Back Together

A gentle, optional return to one room - a few reflections or a small shared gesture to hold what came up, never forced.

Closing

Before you leave, something to take home with you and a clear way to stay connected, whether that's our next gathering date or a way to reach the community between events. The last thing we want to say out loud: you didn't just come sit with us once. You're part of something that keeps going.

About MDG

MDG is a holistic divorce support platform built around the idea that no one should have to navigate separation alone. The team works across the legal, financial, emotional, and co-parenting sides of divorce, connecting people with the right experts, community, and information at each stage. Come Sit With Us grew out of conversations MDG had been having with people in the community who had lived through divorce, or watched someone they loved go through it, and kept hearing the same thing: they needed a place to say the parts they'd never said out loud. This event is MDG's way of building that place, one gathering at a time.
