Kiran Nadar Museum of Art presents a series of curator-led walkthroughs of TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight (with the lightness of being). These sessions offer an opportunity to engage closely with the work of one of India’s most significant modern artists.
Through selected works and key series such as Falling Figure, Mahishasura, Kali, Bull, and the Diagonal, the walkthrough traces the evolution of MEHTA’s visual language across five decades. The session explores how his use of form, colour, and spatial tension reflects themes of conflict, vulnerability, and transformation in post-Independence India.
Participants are invited to consider the relationships between individual works, recurring motifs, and the broader curatorial framework shaping the exhibition. The walkthrough also offers insight into MEHTA’s working process through archival material, including sketches, photographs, and film. Designed as an open and reflective experience, the session encourages close looking and a deeper understanding of how MEHTA redefined the language of modern Indian painting.
